Who did they cave on this for and sign during the season? I was trying to think back, but i can't remember them ever doing it.

How does it work then? Those guys are out there practicing like he's not in the game. Different routes getting timing down from different sets. You can't tell me roles are not going to change if/when he comes in.

Thanks Mac that's what I was getting at.

I won't deny that Wallace will need some time to catch up. I'm saying it's not like we have a #1, #2, #3, and #4, and each of those positions have their own routes. That's how you make it sound. Like Brown is doing all the #1 routes, Sanders the #2, Cotch the #3, and once Wallace returns, they'll all be bumped down a spot and won't have practiced anything! That's just not how it is.

That is true, its kind of like some people are getting misconstrued like the game and practices are set up like a video game such as Madden, where you see that someone is the #1 receiver and has his route and someone is #2 and has his route, and you can bump and move them around on the depth chart to change routes and so on. And when Wallace returns Brown practicing the #1 routes will be a waste because he will now be the #2...I don't believe that's how it works in real life. And I agree, Wallace will need to have a little time to catch up but he will for sure start and be a major part of the passing game, even if he doesn't make a reception. You cant teach speed, and because he of his speed he almost is always double covered which leaves Brown and the other guys usually open.

While all of the receivers are supposed to be capable at lining up in any position, they do have their specialty. Wallace is generally the split end (on the line of scrimmage) and Brown is the flanker (off the line). Sanders has just stepped into Wallace's position for the time being and Brown is doing business as usual. The backups do the same thing but are expected to be more flexible depending on the need. Generally the fastest receiver is on the line of scrimmage because they can get deep more quickly. When Wallace comes back, he will be inserted into his normal position and Sanders will back him up or come in during 3-5 receiver sets. The biggest issue will be on the plays with very specific timing routes (which he won't do until he is comfortable with the system -- per Haley). He certainly will have to redevelop his timing with Big Ben on everything, but that won't take too long. He will be a dangerous weapon and an asset almost right out of the gate if he has been training as hard as he says he has.

    Thanks for the kind words!
Actually, I'm more concerned with all of these stupid injuries. As good as we are, it's tough to win when we can't suit up several of our top players. I was at the San Francisco debacle last year. We were hurting and the rest of the team played like we were hurting. It was like they knew it and left their swagger back in the 'burgh. And to think I spent 3 hours in traffic on that stupid Bay Bridge to get to that lame stadium that couldn't even keep the lights on! I'm from southern California and don't get to see the Steelers in person as much as I'd like... I couldn't believe that the Raider fans are actually nicer than the 49er fans.

    Go Steelers!

Yup, good post. Somtimes I know what I want to say, but don't exacly get it out right. I didn't know who was lining up where and what they were going to do when he came back. I had assumed that they had moved Brown over into that role which I suspected would hinder the timing across the board if they moved him back after a pre-season worth of work.
