I was pleasantly surprise at how Vince William played against the Chiefs. He should be our starter going forward. but what are we going to do when Shazier comes back? send Timmons to the bench? move Timmons to OLB?

Rotate them and keep them fresh. Shazier has had injuries frequently, so better get V. Williams ready for this season and for the future (remembering Timmons is going to be a FA after the season).

Vince Williams played out of his mind! Shazier will start when he comes back and hope the Glass One can stay on the field. Williams will get his time in the line up. Williams will replace Timmons after this season I believe. Have an ace in the hole if Shazier gets nicked again and lets be honest who thinks this isn't going to happen?

As well as Vince played, I think Timmons is still the better player- though the gap is closing. When Shazier is back, I'd like to see Vince get quality snaps relieving both Shazier and Timmons on occasion. I do think it's at least 50/50 that he's the 2017 starter opposite Shazier though.

I'm all for Williams. Guy plays his heart out. Glassier is phenomenal but he blows up himself just as much as the opponent.

Timmons definitely is the better player. This Williams had one heck of a good game Sunday night. I'd still like to see Timmons back for another year.

Finally, he's showing on the field what everyone sees in practice

Been a Vince fan from day 1. His very first camp, he was lining people up, telling them where to go. What he lacks in athleticism, he makes up for with intelligence.

    Good player and underrated, IMO

Yep, me, too. One of the very first discussions I had on this board was defending VW against some that wanted to cut him. I never understood that. Dude has looked like a player from the beginning.

I've always been a fan of Vince, as he seems to play well each time he has the opportunity.

From my perspective, rotating linebackers might not be as productive. sometime a player gets in a groove by playing every snap. you lose the momentum when rotating players. Yes, rotating players keep them fresh but getting in the zone requires play after play.

With stats like these I dont see how vince cant be a starter:

Vince Williams filled in more than admirably for the oft-injured Ryan Shazier, finishing with well over 14 tackles, a sack, and showed he can run down running backs like Spencer Ware 40-yards downfield. He was the defensive MVP of tonight’s game. Now, missing Shazier for several weeks, which could be possible with an MCL sprain, does not look so daunting. Same goes for Dangerfield filling in for Robert Golden.

Even though Shazier is the better athlete and overall player, it seems Willams works better aside Timmons?

Shazier sometimes over runs himself out of the play?

I'd have a hard time pulling any of the guys off the field that played on defense, back ups or not. They played their hearts out.

Shazier is so injury prone. He cannot stay on the field so he is not much use to us . I like him. His athleticism is uncanny but he is pretty much injured all the time.

Timmons has been great, but if he walks in the offseason.... Williams and Shazier will be a good ILB pair.

Been on the VW Bus as well....hard nose, downhill thumper. I said a year or two ago that he should get some rush opportunities from the OLB position...seems to have a nose for the football. If our pass rush from some of our other OLBs doesn't improve it could be another way to get him on the field for a few snaps once our starters are healthy(if)...can't have too many playmakers and sure tacklers on the field.

Just let me throw this out there as food for thought. Not to take anything away from Williams performance but his best game in the NFL and at 100% health is statistically equal to Shazier playing with a nagging injury.

Look, I like Vince Williams and he's done a good job most of the time he's asked to fill in... with that being said there is no way I'm having him take snaps from our best playmaker on defense when he's fully healthy. Just won't do it. It's just ridiculous than the Bell/Williams RB debate.

If he's taking snaps from Timmons then we can talk. They are similar players at this stage of their careers and Timmons is getting older. He should not be spelling a healthy Shazier ever.

Put Shazier in a protective bubble or else he will just get hurt again when a fly lands on him
