I think a bit too much is made of the 'under contract.'
There is something to be said for honoring a contract, but they are not stupid honorable.
If they felt he was such an influence, they could have easily made him a better offer or even a title.
So, I don't know.. he's gone so it is what it is, I guess.

All Steelers OCs are criticized. Whisenhunt was too conservative and Arians abandoned the power run game, but yet they won Super Bowls coaching Roethlisberger.

Steelers OCs have been a constant scapegoat and whipping post for the fans since the early 80's. OCs.... can't overcome crappy QB play. Ask Haley, Gailey and Erhardt.

Roethlisberger, Stewart and O'Donnell laid some serious eggs in the playoffs....no fault of the OC.
