It's slow today so I will toss this out to see if any of Yinz n' at can help a nerd.

There is a 7 second delay with broadcasts called the "Profanity Delay". It allows producers to catch whatever they need to bleep. When you watch an NFL game, you are 7 seconds behind.

But, I was listening to a game where the announcer called "incomplete pass" before the ball hit the receivers hands. As I paid attention, it became clear there is another delay lagging the video behind the announcers to allow them to think and speak in sequence.

Therefore, does anyone with inside information specifically know what the value is of this delay?

I think it just depends on the signal each broadcaster is broadcasting from. When Steve Bartman interfered with the ball at Wrigley that fateful night he was listening on the radio and the radio broadcast was actually quite behind what Moises Alou was doing. I saw a video where the radio audio and tv broadcast were shown at the same time and the radio broadcast was actually pretty far behind. I just figure it's because of the signals they are operating off of. That's my guess anyway. Also I'm always glad to try and help a fellow nerd. My wife gets mad when I refer to myself as such but I wear that proudly. She just doesn't want people to think she's married to a nerd but I'm pretty sure my constant wearing of 80's cartoon and video game shirts probbbbbably gives it away. LOL!

The TV broadcast also takes longer, due to the system it's sent through. There are actually apps and software to let you sync the two.

I had a similar problem when trying to listen to SNR last week instead of the ice pick in the ear tandem of Buck and Aikman. SNR was about 20 seconds ahead and it was hard to watch with the delay (and sometimes without lol)
