I can understand the frustration with the injuries to Troy and James but maybe part of the reason is because those guys "bring it" on every play and their bodies are due to breakdown, but what I would give to have anyone out there with the heart and tenacity that those guys show. The rest of the D just don't have what it takes.

What the hell has happened to Lawrence Timmons? He is supposedto be one of our big play makers. The guy hasn't made a splash play since 2010. he keeps this up he won't get another contract extension. We have apparantly have only 6 or 7 impact players on our entire team (Ben, Wallace, AB, Troy, Clark, Woodley and Silverback)

Where are the impact players from our last three drafts? I think this is a bad sign for the future

The defense can't get off the field on 3rd downs pass rush is nonexistent. The cb's are giving too much cushion to the oppposing wr's there was one 3rd and 2 play and Ike Taylor is playing 10yds off the wr.

Re: Please quit apologizing for the defense

Just wait EDOG there will be some troll on here trying to be all positive and talking smack to you. The fact is that we do not look like a Steelers d. If I were Flacco I'd be salivating to play these "corners" that we have. When I see Keenan Lewis I just get so mad. It's even worse than when I used to see David Johnson. I'm sick of seeing Redman fighting for yards and only getting maybe 3. I'm sick of seeing Ryan Mundy trying to "tackle". I'm sick of hearing about "swagger" and watching Ike get beat like a drum even AFTER the illegal contact. The ONLY guy on this team that I feel I can ALWAYS count on to bring it EVERY play and EVERY game is Heath. I love Ben too but I don't know if he's gonna always show up mentally prepared.

This Defense needs more playmakers. Aside from Harrison and Troy (when healthy) and occasionally Woodley, the well is dry. Keisel has regressed this year...seems he's more interested in promoting his beard than playing solid ball. Hood is mediocre, as is Timmons. Foote is what he is...a guy with below average talent that tries hard, but it seems every time there's a missed tackle in the backfield or around the line of scrimmage, he's involved. Clark and Ike are solid but not getting any younger.
I'm not sure if it's scheme or talent, but not only does this defense not get turnovers...they aren't even close to getting turnovers. One sack on Palmer? Oakland forced 3 fumbles while the Steelers forced 0. This turnover famine, now into its second season, has become an epidemic.
The "young" guys waiting in the wings...Lewis, Allen, Brown, Worilds, Carter, Heyward, Sylvester, etc...have not shown a lot of flash. Are they the answer? Who knows, but my gut instinct for more than a few of them is "no."
We can talk about scheme and coaching all day (which I'm sure we will), and the criticism is obviously justified, but i'm not so sure a bigger problem isn't talent evaluation. Colbert & co. should not get a free pass here.

The defense was pitiful. I can't remember the last time that our D has been so completely dominated. Starting w/ McFadden's big run early and ending with them unable to stop the Raiders passing. This is a real problem. So painful to watch.

I expected Steelers to start 2-2, then play better as Ben& company learned the new offense. I never expected our D to hand over games!

    Re: Enough of the Excuses

I agree that Tomlin does not seem to be a good coach and I agree that it appears that time has passed Lebeau. This started last year when we let Tebow beat us and it was the defense. We said it was due to Clarke not playing. Our offense line is abysmal and cannot block. They cannot do anything good, cannot run nor pass block but just hold.. How can Beachum make the team and Essex did not?

But it is not just the HC and DC, it is the GM and the entire scouting department that also sucks. They are the ones who scouts and recommends these guys. Lewis is going to make the Pro Bowl, PLEASE! Larry Foote is not an upgrade over Farrior for he is too old and slow to cover.

We do not have a pass rush at all and have not had a pass rush for years. How important is a DL and pass rush, just ask the Giants.

Big Ben played well but our WRs kept fumbling the ball. AB fumbled the ball they scored immediately. We moved the ball well until when we had to and then we were pathetic. When the game were on the line, a rookie HC, outcoached us. The Raiders and we were the one with all of the penalties and that is a lack of focus and discipline. That is on the coaching staff.

Now we are 1-2 and yes most on here are right, it will get a lot worse before it get better. A lot worse!!

I just hope with the early bye week coming, this team does some soul searching and comes out hungry against Philly and beyond for that matter. I think Ben is looking really sharp thus far and the line did a terrific job blocking all day, except for that last damn possession. Unfortunately this is where it counted the most.
The blame on this one goes to Coach T. and Dick LeBeau. Schemes were horrid in the second half. We just always seem to lose these easy games, due to lack of focus. :frustrated:
Let's go get these next four games for sure. That'll put us at 5-2 going at the Giants! :herewego:

The Eagles have 12 turnovers in 3 games. How much you wanna bet they don't have ANY against us? This Eagles game will be the game that ultimately tells the tale on our D. We know they are tunrover prone so and even turned it over against CLEVELAND! So if we come out of this game torched on D then we will know for sure that we need SERIOUS change.

When was the last time we had a sniff at a top ten draft choice. Cowher was able to keep us competitive by developing mediocre talent. Tomlin needs to step it up and instill some discipline in his team. Stupid penalties, guys out of position, both O and D lines being attacked and over run, DB's playing slap hands with receivers if they can catch up to them.
Last off season was traumatic losing heroes like Smith and Hines. This off season has to be the same. We fall in love with a guy because he wears black and gold and over pay them. Too many of these guys are not worth the money. How many could still be considered busts? Get rid of mediocracy, spend the cash on quality free agents, get a medical staff that can properly evaluate an injury and condition players. There is no fire on this team.

Apologies to the players who give a dam.....n

Bye week will give us some time to think about how we CAN NOT give the ball to the opposition in the last two minutes of the game...even if we have a one score lead...we blew it...this game...we blew against Denver...if we just get beat that's one thing...but for our offense to just stall in the final minutes...and not CONTROL the ball and the clock...d@mn it...I can't believe I'm pullin' for Tom Brady and bunch tonight...against Baltimore...Go Patriots.

I agree, I think there is a problem on this line. Hood is average, Hampton just takes up space, and Keisel is having a real slow start to this season, is it the injury he sustained last year? I think Heyward really needs to start full time somewhere on this line...he makes things happen when he is in the game, and they really need to consider if Mclendon at this stage is better than Hampton?

I really don't have to wonder if McClendon is better than Hampton......Its not even close....Hampton is doing exactly what he is supposed to do.

    What garbage football today.

I'm so tired of the tv announcers, players, coaches, complaining about the refs.
They are embarrassing themselves after every play begging for flags or verbally and physically assaulting them.
Your employer made this decision, deal with it with him.
    Do something about it.

I honestly can't think of a time when Heyward has been a big difference maker. I'm not saying that you are blatantly wrong. I'm just wondering if you could give some clarification to that statement.

I'm trying to keep up with the "let's fire" list here. After the 1st loss the real shocker was someone nominated Woodley. If you remember when we last left off I pondered if Art could be saved. I'm sure his name will come up in the near future but

Well, you've amazed me by bringing up a new nominee......Colbert.

My venting is hours behind. I had to work today and was reduced to listening to the game on a very staticy AM band out of NY with Raider homer announcers. :frustrated:

I'm either too tired to be truly righteously angry, or I've calmed some already. That said, here's my little, belated, venting rant.

Isn't Tomlin supposed to be a defensive guru??? It's obvious Lebeau is ready for the glue farm. Oh, he has great schemes, and calls a great game... if the game was played in friggin 1993. (FDLI) But where is Mike in all of this? Step up, man! It's your team!

No excuses. The defense lost this one. Period. End of story. A pathetic performance for the ages. I called Pittsburgh 911 and reported a robbery because they all stole their paychecks this week.

Against one of, if not the weakest rush defense in the league, we still can't exert our will and run the ball with authority? Overall, the offense did more than enough to win, so I can't really complain there, but come on...

So now, hey, we have a bye week. Time to drill baby drill. If any team needs practice, it's this one.

Agreed. I had the nerve to mention that Lawrence Timmons may be a bust in an earlier post and a lot of people berated me over it. If he isn't a bust at this point in his career, he is certainly heading in that direction if he doesn't start better representing himself on the field. MAKE SOME PLAYS, LAWRENCE!
