Best of luck in retirement Vance! You were better than many fans gave you credit for, and should have been more involved as a target this year. You’ll be missed.
Kind of surprised, but likely a smart move by a classy guy who gave his all on and off the field. Good luck to Vance and his family.
Man, I really like Vance but good for him and congrats on retirement!!
Enjoy retirement. Would have liked to see him used more.
Was not expecting that, I thought he would give it another year, albeit it was shaping up like they were going to have to make a choice between Ebron and Vance.
Best of luck to him in his retirement
Abandoning ship? Well, he was a bad azz of a TE that I felt should have been used more. Their turning to the pass dropper did us little good in hindsight. Good luck Vance, and congratulations on having represented the Pittsburgh Steelers with class.
Damn damn damn. It would have been nice to get another year out of him. It looks like we will be shopping for cheap tight ends in free agency this year
Good luck Vance in retirement, I'll always remember you as one of the greatest stiff-arm plays by a Steeler.
Happy Retirement Vance Mcdonald. I will never understand why the Steelers didn't run more single back, two TE sets last season. Complete waste of keeping Vance on the roster.
not the one i expected. good player. thank you vance.
Never did think his heart was in it, I am glad he gave the Steelers time to prepare.
That's a strange way to spell Roethlisberger.
I wonder if he looked around and pouted after retiring. I had such high hopes for him but hated his demeanor on the field.
Good guy and wish him the best. Will always be remembered for that massive stiff arm of Conte!
Should have used him more. This season he always had a "down" look on his face. Ben and Randy's offense forced him into retirement.
Vance is a good guy, salt of the earth type. He connected the Steelers with Convoy of Hope and does a lot of work with them helping people out.
I wish him the best and thank him for his contributions on the field
maybe he's trying for the open TE coaching vacancy.
A True Team Player will always state they Love their role , but I have never met a skilled position Offensive Player that didn't think they deserved the ball..He said all the right things , but come on he wanted the ball and seen the writeing on the wall...No skilled Ball elegible guy wants to keep banging and busted themslves up without the occassional reward ...In HS we would always make it a point to throw these types a bone , if Ben comes back there is no Bone because Ben can't do PA ..This is where a TE like him can make his Hay,,I don't blame him 1 bit..TY for your service and it should have been more , but sadly you had to end your career as a product of your environment...
Much Love and I wish him the best..
I missed your post after I got done I seen this..Its spot on short and sweet , but spot on..
Thank you Vance. Steeler Nation will miss you. Enjoy your retirement.
I started reading the posts here and I did not have to go past yours to respond. "Yes", to everything you stated. Totally under-used this past season. I get that Ebron was the "Catching" Bookend of the TE Tandem. However, Vance could have been way more involved besides for his blocking. Vance could have those 5-Catch/75-Yard/1-2 TD games at any point. We have seen it before. He should have been used on down the middle seam routes like Heath Miller was. Completely misused. His exit is definitely way too early for me.
STEELWINDS The East Side Kid
When Vance became a fan favorite
This is a good compilation, too.
The shame was he was used very little in both the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He has had some concussions and probably just said let me get out while the getting's good. Thought he was a force before being blackballed. Was a fav to watch.
On with your life's work Vanimal...
