The best play Van Jefferson made yesterday was being smart on the TD to Muth. He ran a pick, but was sure not to make any contact on defender making it totally legal.

That was smart, but otherwise, he was useless. A receiver in the current NFL has to be a special kind of bad to only catch 14 passes for 139 yards in nine games. Aside from the tough, 36-yard grab against the Giants and the one touchdown, Jefferson has been terrible.

    that was a good play.

almost was a pick, I guess that involves contact - that is what makes it a penalty, correct?

He has had 3 weeks with a QB. I will make full assessment at years end. I am sure you feel the same with Austin. MWilliams made 1 play and everyone here is ready to crown him King.

i know you like to jump to early conclusions - see K Pickett.... :duel:

Fields wasn’t that bad. Jefferson just hasn’t been good.

Jefferson is in his fifth year in the NFL. He is what he is, so it is silly that you keep assuming he will do more.

That one play Williams made was a game-winning touchdown reception. It was the kind of adjustment to the ball that Jefferson rarely makes.

Also, look at their careers. Williams is a far better player than Jefferson. It's not even close.

For me against Washington it was those Moon Balls to Calvin Austin that had me going why??? Why throw a jump ball to the shortest guy on the team?

Calvin Austin is built for speed, you throw a deep ball down the field when he has beat his guy and is running deep all by himself. You don't need to put any Air under it, you just need to put some zip on it to get it deep to Austin.

it's not silly. I have documented why he has struggled - early career knee injury, this is his first healthy year. I expect a good 2nd half of the season. We will all get to watch and see

The only season he missed any time with injury was 2022, when he only played in 11 games. Your flimsy excuse for Jefferson does not hold up. He has been hilariously unproductive since the beginning of last season, causing two organizations to give up on him. He had a quarterback who was near the middle of the pack in passing statistics the first six games this season and did nothing. He has had a better quarterback the last three games and caught a total of six passes for 77 yards, none in the game against the Commanders. That is an average of two receptions for 26 yards per game. That is pathetic for a starting No. 2 wide receiver in the modern NFL.

Let's not forget that the Steelers gave up draft capital to get him out of the lineup, trading a fifth-round pick for Williams. Jefferson is fine as a fourth receiver, but has no business starting.
