Isn't the 'open' end slightly closed off now? I know they were adding some seats there. Not sure how much affect it will have on field goals.

Well he did go 3 for 3 with the Browns last year.

I think I read that he is actually a fair bit better kicking on grass than on turf... Like 88% - 78%, or something like that? Not sure what that means for the field turf at Heinz, but we do play a lot of games on grass this season.

I still hope/think that they will bring in a young leg for competition.

I'd have to say it will be interesting. Three Rivers was a doughnut and the wind came in there funky. I'd bet it still comes in on that end, but is more of a down draft.

Ty Long was a kicker at Alabama-Birmingham who I have seen for a few years now. I was surprised he did not get drafted. But he was signed as a undrafted free agent by Washington. He is Very accurate, and a big leg. Nice guy, great attitude.. With the Skins already having good young kicker " Kai Forbath " in the mix, I would definitely bring in Ty Long if he is released by the Skins. And likely he will be, cause no team keeps two Kickers. So remember the name Ty Long once the Cuts begin....He is very good.

Shank Graham is known to choke in big games. The more the game is on the line the further the kick shanks. No thank you.

I was thinking the same thing. The kicker you're talking about is Danny Hrapmann. I thought he looked pretty good and the only reason he never stuck was because obviously we didn't need another kicker. But now, why not bring him in. I just checked, he's available.

I forgot about Hrapmann. I don't think he's been with a team in a while.

Suishams injury will be felt for a few of the games. At least that is my feeling. If I was a coach I would have a kicker either run off the field immediately after kickoff lol

Sad thing is, they usually have 2 kickers in camp, they changed that policy this time and this is the results. Had they stuck to what they normally do, Suisham probably isn't even on the field for that kick.

We should start a petition to get the Steelers to sign him instead!

Right.. That I did not know. Hmmm.. Maybe instruct kickers never to make contact but then again if they are the last resort I guess you are going to knuckle down lol

From what I've read Hartley is one of the best cold weather kickers in the league and is a lot better on grass. Who remembers all of this discussions when we signed Suisham I know I do. Nobody wanted him as our kicker.

Kickers are always hard to judge for me. They stink it up there and shine there. I'll reserve judgement on Hartley until I can see some game time kicks. I do hope the Steelers bring in another leg for camp though. They need to cover their bases in case Hartley isn't the guy.

My only memory is that Suisham was seen by many as a stopgap replacement. So here's hoping whoever they find as a stopgap this season (whether it's the NO guy or someone supersedes him in camp) has a similar effect...

I'd take that ESPN Fowler article with a huge grain of salt. According to the article, he's made 13 FG's in "cold" weather.... defined as between 33-40 degrees (9) and below 33 degrees (4). Hartley grew up in Texas, played in a Dome most of his professional career. I'll welcome him with open arms, but I'm not sold on him until he starts making some kicks.

I was very apprehensive over Suisham coming in too, but he has proven his worth (except for one bad season).
