You don’t really believe that every ex player and analysts out there all agree on every topic do you?

So naturally there will be those that agree with your position and those who don’t.

Was Okoye a football genius. The answer is no. A lot of NFL players don’t watch football before, during or after their career. It’s just a job. Some can barely spell their name. They are lucky if they now their role on any given play and most likely have no idea what anyone else is supposed to do. If these NFL players know so much how come they don’t know a game can end in a tie. Yes I don’t know more about the game then most of them but I sure as hell no more than some of them.

i think a lot of decisions with these type of guys is what the steelers are looking at in the draft too. if we are looking at safeties matheu may not want to come here and have to compete with a high draft pick at his age. i'm sure some of this will go into his thinking and the steelers thinking. why draft a guy that high if you are not going to use him for a couple of years. especially after the first round where you only get 4 years of service and then the cost goes up from there. could weigh on his decisions and the money of course will be a factor. who he plays for also. lots to weigh the decision.

She also posted this shortly ago.

On the prospect of signing ex-Kansas City safety Tyrann Mathieu, she said, “I have been told that ‘Honey Badger’ may not need quite as much money as I was told he needed a week ago.” Kinkhabwala went on to say that Mathieu believes “the idea of playing for Mike Tomlin is very enticing” and that “perhaps the monetary hopes and demands aren’t quite what they once were.”

Surprising he left the Saints facility without a deal. I thought this would be a Homecoming.

I don't see the Steelers paying Mathieu 10 million or more a year, if they're going to make Minkah the highest paid safety, that's too much money for the safety position.

If they can get Minkah for $8-10 mil the next two years, and Matthieu for 8-10 mil the next two years, their d backfield is set. and that's worth the investment.

If the numbers are right, he would improve the Steelers dramatically in what we do
or could do. His instincts are incredible.

If this is what happens in a speculative signing thread about Matthieu, imagine what the threads will be like if he actually signs here…

I don't see Minka signing for anything less than a $15 million per year average. I think it will be more likely $18 million per year. 5 yrs for $90 million.

And that’s perfectly fine. Next year someone else will claim the top safety contract, and 2 years from now Minkah’s contract that was once the largest safety contract in history will be a bargain.

I don't think he was saying that anything was wrong with $18M / year.
Just that steelersrock151 hoping that Minkah's contract would be $8-10M / year was not close to reality.
(Currently there are 12 safeties averaging $10M+ / year, 20 safeties over $8M.)

Correct. Lets say his signing bonus is $50 million on the 5 year contract that should put his 2022 cap cost at around $11 million; which is almost exactly what his 5th year option is costing. They will not lose any ground this year with Minka's cap cost by making him the highest paid safety in the league.

What this means is that if they can get Mathieu to come in on a 1 year 8-10 million contract they could afford to sign both players at safety for 2022. If Mathieu is wanting a multi-year contract they will not be able to do that as Minka's Cap is going to blow up in 2023.

Not what I said. I said for this year. Not for his contract. I said earlier that it would be for $18 mil a year. 8-10 this year, 14-16 next year, 18-20 year 3, 20-24 years 4 and 5.
