They made the same stupid argument over blank cassette tapes. I’ve purchased more records by unknown to me bands because of Napster, torrents etc. Bands that I otherwise would not have heard.

I just read through every reply in this thread. I have yet to see even a single person insist that Stephon Tuitt give them some sort of personal explanation for his retirement. No one has said that. You Rel, and Thorn are making a strawman argument. People are miffed at Tuitt's timing. That doesn't mean any of us were expecting a phone call from Tuitt.

We don’t even know if his timing is bad. The Steelers said they were communicating with him all along. Maybe they had a reason for the announcement coming now? June 1 cap hit for example.

Labriola detailed it in asked and answered today. If they let it stand its pretty much a?wash. 9 million cap hit vs about the same in saved salary, difference being a net loss in CAP of 610,750. Because of restructure they are already on the hook for 4.7 million in 2023, 1.5 in 24 and 25. Depends on if they just want to eat it this year or increase it to 9 plus next year.

Absolutely. I can remember trying to tune in to college stations to hear off the wall stuff when I got tired of the big, popular stations when I was a kid. Either that or talk to folks that attended concerts or played in bands to tip me off about cool new stuff. The Internet is ideal for folks looking for something different musically.

Yes, but not 2 steal songs. Some people don't understand that Metallica had some song that had been hacked from the studio they were recording at, and there were copies of unfinished songs of theirs all over Napster at the time.

Fans aren't supposed to support anybody. We choose who we support. Tuitt is no longer a Steeler and he left under circumstances that pissed off some fans. It doesn't help that we don't know if he told the Steelers ahead of time that he was retiring or dropped that news on them on June 1. Fans have every right to not support his actions.

Why do these companies pay all this money that then goes to the league/owners? Because of viewership...

Why the hell would companies pay money to advertise their product with nobody watching?!

Forget about that. We have no right to question the actions of football players, even if they might have repaid our favorite team's kindness, generosity, and support by screwing them with the timing when they announce their retirement.

Well sure, if you want to organize a world wide strike of the NFL to prove how much power you hold, knock yourself out but as currently structured, you’re money is a very small piece of the pie.

I don't think 1 June 22 was some coincidence. That was likely a hard Steelers deadline and if he didn't make a decision yet, the Steelers would've cut him. It is what it is in the world of business.

Not a big fan of boycotts. But there are certain groups that I don't spend my money on. Doesn't hurt them probably but then I don't do it to hurt them I do it for myself. So those groups or organizations I don't support with my money make me feel good. I don't buy merchandise from the NFL anymore. Does it hurt the NFL? Nope. not a bit. But then I'm not trying to hurt them. I do watch the games so there is that minimal support I give. People here can feel and express their feelings for Tuitt anyway they wish and people can respond. I simply don't care about Tuitt anymore since he's not a part of the Steelers. Good by Tuit. Have a great life. We're moving on

You're equating viewership with ticket revenue which are separate things. Companies pay huge amounts of money in advertising in order to drive sales. If Budwieser run 5 spots an hour over a three hour time period and Labatts doesn't which beer is more likely to do well? They don't care about football or ticket sales they want eyeballs viewing their product and deciding to buy it. It's why they pay for ads even on bad Thursday night games because it still thousands of more views than not paying for it.

Several years ago maybe more Penn State broke from tradition and allowed Nike to place a small Nike swoosh on the shoulder of the men's football jersey. The money Penn State received from Nike was enough to pay for all other collegiate sports at the school. Now Nike didn't pay that money so that the 110k people who pack Beaver Stadium for a home game would see it and think oh yeah Nike I should buy some shoes. They did it because its a historic program at a prestigious school and being associated with it will drive sales. The don't care about ticket revenue or what the Lions record is they care about selling products.
