If he comes back, he might not play the number of snaps he did in 2020, but they have Loudermilk with a year of experience to step in and contribute.

IIRC they don't save much by cutting him?

It just sux because Steelers need to know right now while they are gearing up for the Draft and FA. Are ya in or are ya out?

From what I’m reading the savings from cutting him is 4.295 million because of the dead money from his restructuring last year.

    • If the Steelers choose to cut ties with Tuitt this offseason, it’s going to cost them. If Tuitt is cut prior to June 1, It would save the team around $4.3 million but also create $9.68 million in dead money. After June 1, the cap savings go up to $9 million and dead money drops to $4.9 million.

Yes...They could actually do it now,AND STILL designate it a June 1st cut...Somehow it's just a paperwork thing

it breaks it up into two years though. which wouldn't be a bad thing. if he retires though i believe we owe it all this year. guaranteed money anyway.

My guess is...They have been very patient / gracious with Tuiit but...

They will need an answer one why or the other by FA, or the Draft! It's a huge thing!

Tuiit plays......Not near as a priority

    Tuitt doesn't play...Big priority!

He's that good, and important...It would be the same if say Heyward blew his knee out training

    It would INSTANTLY change everything

Why wouldn't he retire then, as opposed to being cut?

    Not being a Smartass...But , That's quite a gamble on his part...Correct?

Can't have him sitting out another year that's for sure. Cut him after June 1st if he is waffling. Would rather have him back but his physical and mental health are a concern.

What's the big secret? It's strange.

he may want to keep playing. if cut he can sign elsewhere and probably for pretty good money. if he retires we can't spread his money over two years by the salary cap. he wouldn't get paid all the money we have restructured twice i think at this point. his yearly salary wouldn't be paid just what is left of his guaranteed money owed him. i believe this is how it would work. any cap guru's out there?

Again, not to be insensitive because it's a terrible thing but.....

It's been a year...They need to know, one way or another. Steelers may get an " Atta Boy " for standing behind Tuiit but, they have a business to run, and Tuiit is a major component on how an off-season will move forward...

I give him a deadline of March 15th...Ball is in your court " until then"

If they don't get an answer by then... We'll make an answer for you...Sorry!

I'm sorry but I do not know anyone who has not had loss in their lives imcluding me. Spouses, siblings, children. I'm sorry, he is a grown man. If he had to work paycheck to paycheck like the majority of us, he would have taken his allowed leave and gone back to real life lomg ago.

I think at this point it would be better to cut him and take the money in savings. Even if he does come back he won't return to form for at least a year, If ever. Draft a DL, grab a free agent with the money and bye Bye Tuitt

Why wouldn't he return to form for at least a year? You seem to pulling that time frame out of thin air.

We don't know the status of his knee. We don't know about his conditioning. I get the temptation to start making things up, but it doesn't add anything of value to the discussion.

Got to think about that a min. If He can actually comeback ....He's one of the top DL players in the league. I don't think Heyward is even as good as Him when He plays, but We do need 2 know if He is , or not.

I'm not worried about the year off. At times he was a beast and we could really use that. Bigger issues are that he's getting older, misses games, and comes with a very big price tag. I'd take the 6/1 $9M unless he's really excited about returning and it sure doesn't seem that way... but we don't know for sure.

I don’t know. Sometimes players miss a season for and injury and come back fine.
