I was 14 at the start of the season in '72 and saw the handwriting on the Charger wall when they traded my favorite player. Former 1st round pick, college football HOF middle linebacker. I think I was young enough. :yeehaw:

I live in Redskins territory where the fans seem to jump ship (aka become Ravens fans) in high numbers every year. I always tell them it is IMPOSSIBLE to just start liking another team. That is a bandwagon fan. Yes, entire NE area, I'm talking to you! Never lived in Pittsburgh but have made many trips to games. First question I'm always asked is "Are you from Pittsburgh?" Been a fan since mid 80's when I was a kid. When I have tears in my eyes after the Super Bowl losses and my wife sees how broken up I am (cried like a baby after last years loss) don't ever say I'm not a fan because I'm not from Pitt.

I m 42 yrs old lived in VA all my life. Redskin country to be exact. My aunt bought me a Miami Dolphins jacket my first yr of school. My mom bought me a cowboys jacket, dont know why she bought it. Think I was 7-8 when I said I like the Steelers and the rest is history. I still have Steeler stuff from my childhood.

Guy stopped me today, I had my Steeler shirt on. He said alot of 'steeler fans' have put up their stuff. I looked at his wife and she had a Steeler pocket book. I said 'And some of us dont.' :towel: But I guess I m a bandwagon fan as well. :frustrated: Why was this thread created?  :bs:

I have had people from Pittsburgh bring Iron City beer to me in NJ, and I drank it.

I understand the frustration with bandwagon fans....but to start the old "Your not a true Steeler fan if..." is too much.
Your more likely to confuse a bandwaggoner with someone frustrated with the teams current outing and looking for either a place to vent or for improvements next year.

I'm a youngin, I became a Steelers fan in 2000 (Which by the way, wasn't that great of a year.) after having been groomed to be a Rams fan. I live nowhere near Pittsburgh but have followed them with enthusiasm as I'm sure all of you do as well.

To start classifying usually leads to narrowing the acceptances and does a real good job of making Steeler nation look bad. Bandwaggoners will come and go, that's why were here, this place is supposed to be a haven for Steeler fans and I'm just glad to be here despite how we may bicker.

You failed to cover all of us who've been fans of the Steelers since birth, or at least old enough to know what football was. 40 years and more for many of us. But we never lived in or near Pittsburgh.

Really? Place of birth or residence matters? GTFO. :roflmao:

Yet another "I'm a better fan than you" crap post.

I suppose I should be thankful you're not trying to measure your... er, fandom.

Ok then. But you might want to make that clear in the future. :)

Well we known for sure nobody on this board is band wagon. A true band wagon fan would have left the board after the Denver game never to return again :hehehe:

Really dumb thread. Anyone who takes the time to register and post here is a real fan. For the record, born and raised in Pittsburgh, went to Pitt, and now live in Florida but no more of a fan then anyone else on here.

Who really cares about all of this? The Steelers wagon is big enough for life-long fans, new converts AND Bandwagon fans. Steeler Nation does not distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants. All are welcome - and stay as long as you like. Those of us who are lifetime fans may have more fun - but the bandwagoners help us to take over nearly every stadium our team plays in.

none for me either. Born in the late 60's and have been a STEELER fan since I was 3. I loved the colors!!! I have never lived in Pittsburgh. I too have multiple material items and autographs and have attended several games, none of them SB's as I don't have that kind of money. I don't need to prove my loyalty either, anyone who knows me, knows who my favorite team is and also those teams I do not like!!!

OP never said which one he was :lolol: ???

Also the list is just silly..i mean your last choice makes no sense to me..Why would you leave the team in the 90's when Cowher power was just getting underway and stay around in the miserable 80's..
Pretty sure most of us on here are loyal fans till the end....no matter what :towel:

Well, I guess if nothing else, maybe this thread has served to bring us together a bit. There seems to be a loud and consistent common thread here.

I've been a fan since 1970 did'nt grow up in Pittsburgh, but lived in NE area or PA and in NY for the past 22 years. After the Denver loss I took my dog for a run wearing everything Steelers, and took all the verbal abuse that only a true new yorker can dish. Never let it bother me, Steeler Nation Forever. By the way I think your MB name speaks for itself!

This need to categorize Steeler fans drives me up the wall, across the ceiling, and down the other side. Why does it keep resurfacing? Worse, it often became the basis for throwing barbs at one another on that old "board that shall not be named". Please lets not corrupt this excellent MB with that old stuff. People who are newbies are identified by their first posts and welcoming posts. We can all ignore the oversimplified posts that annoy us. Labeling one another by questionable standards is antithetical to what we claim to be the real spirit of the Steeler nation anyway. What need is there to assign ourselves any other definitive label than Steeler Fan. If you want to say you've been a diehard fan since the seventies or tell us that you just moved here, fine. But to me "diehard" and *Steeler Fan" are the only words I need to hear. Bless everyone who belongs here.

Born and raised in Tennessee. Mom is from Beaver and still have family up there. I've only ever known Steeler football. Love putting on my Hines jersey, going to the bar and watching the game! :herewego:

Its my third MB name. Not going into the other two but Cajunyankee described me...kinda.

Mom was a yankee from manchester NH. Dad was from Shreveport LA. They married after WW11 and moved to NC and here I was born and raised. The son of a cajun & a yankee should be called a cajunyankee. Just paying respect and remembering my parents who both have passed away. If I loose this MB name my next one might be Steelcajun, what you think?

I think you should change the definition of the 1st category "Steelers Fan of the Highest Order" to - Someone who is willing to drive 400 miles 3 days before playoff tickets go on sale to the public, the week after Christmas, to sleep in line at the stadium with tempertures reaching a low of -2 and at times a foot of snow falling and losing 1/2 of one of your toes to frostbite!

I think if you change it to the above I would fall into that category. I did the above for 5 years 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. I got tickets to every home playoff game those years and then had to drive back 1 to 2 more times to go to the games! They stopped selling playoff tickets to the public outside the stadium I believe after 1997 due to people showing up at the last minute and cutting people who were there for days in the freezing cold. Needless to say there was a riot with actual riot police...good times I tell ya!

I consider everyone here a "Steeler Fan of the Highest Order" for their own reasons!

    Blitz
