Well, there's a pretty broad interpretation of what he said.

I took it as there were some things that may have been overlooked and there's a fire that everyone needs to have. That fire needs to burn throughout the off-season and really show up in the veterans at camp so they can show the young guys what it's all about.

I'd say so as well. He's one of those veterans who isn't as vocal and needs to step up and take a swing at it!

If Troy devoted as much time to working out in the gym as he does to making commercials he could probably stay on the field more. I believe he thinks in his mind that he is such a gifted athlete that he really doesn't believe that putting on some more muscle could actually make him better. Love the guy but what good does he really do only being able to play 6 or 7 games a season for us?

His words were true, but a little hypocritical........ I thought troy came to mini camp in order to fill that leadership void.... does he really think our memories are poor.

Just because someone is asked to be a leader doesn't mean that they're good at being a leader. Also Troy has always been a quiet cerebral type of guy or a lead by example as opposed to a rah rah Ray Lewis type and different people respond to different types of leadership. So no, Troy's statement doesn't make him a hypocrite.

Dude this team is in DESPERATE need of a leader. I'm talking an in your face, take no crap from nobody, call out anyone for sucking, Joey Porter type leader. That article actually made me kinda angry. He basically said that Ben, him, Woodley, Timmons, Ike, Mendy, Keisel, Casey, Foote, Heath, AB, Wallace, and whoever else are NOT leaders. That's what he's really saying if you get down to the nitty gritty about it. Maybe THAT explains why everyone looked like rookies this year. No verteran leadership. Not that we lack vets. Just that we lack LEADERSHIP. Good grief why do men that are making MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars need to be "led" or "motivated". Maybe if the NFL would structure people's contracts to be paid out at the END of their careers we might see a little more fire from these entitled divas. These guys remind me of people who win the lottery and never actually "work" another day in their lives.

He makes some gutsy statements. Pick it apart if you want to, but he says some things his teammates have a spring and summer now to think over.

That is if Wallace doesn't "lose focus" reading the article. LOL. I couldn't resist. Troy needs to say no to all the commercials and yes to the weight room. Ben needs to realize that his bff that let him do whatever the crap he wanted is gone and needs to man up and learn Haley's system. AB needs to learn how to tuck the football when he's running with it. The oline needs to learn how to not be lying on their backs for most of the game. The running backs need to learn to get in shape, hold the football, and hit whatever hole happens to be open with some burst. Tomlin needs to learn how to manage the clock and play better situational football. Haley needs to learn to not be so dang stubborn with his gameplan. Woodley needs to get healthy and stay that way. Ike and Keenan need to work with a receivers coach to learn how to catch the football. THEN we can talk about making another run. But UNTIL then we can talk about who we are gonna root for in the AFC since the Steelers are out of it.

Exactly, he's 100% correct. And he may have just established himself as a leader with these comments, I'm sure he has the respect of everyone in that locker room and he basically just called them out. This team demonstrated this season that it can't just simply show up for a game and expect to win, we are everyones SB every week because we are the Steelers. We need some others to step up and be leaders too, can't all fall on Troy, as he said, there were several on the team with Hines, Aaron, Bettis, we need vets to step up and fill this void, to make sure the young guys know how much work is needed to win in the NFL.

Dude, give it a break. There was no way Timmons would have ever caught Manning on that play. Nobody in the league would have -- too much ground to make up without a good angle. I have seen Manning do that a few times this year.

Some of our fans really expect superman type plays out of all our players all the time, while expecting the opponents to never be able to make a play. They are all top players on all teams.

Hope he wasnt holding it, he might ve dropped it as well. :roflmao:

I hope these last 2 seasons make these guys hungry. Especially those who have only missed the playoffs 1 time. I hope these guys hate not being in the post season. I hope these guys hate being the laughing stock of the league.

i didn't say he had to catch him but do you remember how slow all defense was in in the beginning , woodley was and is still fat troy injuried immediately timmons was overweight mundy hood keisel too they understimated all the first part of the season , then they came in shape (most of all) and the difference was clear , too bad the offense dissapeer with ben injuried . they have to be perfect for 4/5 months and they take millions for that , they have to come sharp as a knife

But didn't he also say that leader has to be natural? Maybe that's not a natural role for him. He seems like a quiet guy.

Troy even said what some of us here have been saying, about being more prepaid in the off season and training camp. I'm thinking he is referring to be in better shape and work in the offseason.

I`m certainly not going to put the blame on someone who wasn`t on the field for half the season...
But, I am wondering... When IS he gonna play 16 games again?(Since he "went there", and mentioned that he is feeling healthy now, if we had just made the playoffs)
    Leadership aside...
It`s easier to make a difference, if you`re on the field...
    I love Troy.
I don`t think it is in his nature to be a "vocal" leader.
I wouldn`t say he is so much "calling out" others to take that role, as he is, simply pointing out, that we don`t have those types of players.
Personally, My take on it is, if you can`t be motivated to play for the Black n Gold, and the millions of dollars that go along with it, you shouldn`t be on the team.
And on a side note, I would say, Heath showed everyone on this team, exactly how to play this game, on this team, at this level, without saying a word!!!
    Shame he`s undergoing surgery now.
I guess what`s buggin me is, Troy said he was coming into this season healthier than he`s felt in a long time, and it took him 2 games to get hurt...
So, now, he`s going into the offseason "feeling healthier than ever"...
    Is that gonna last?
    I hope it does.
Heath has NEVER complained about being "underused", even tho he has had every right to...
Matter of fact, he has NEVER complained(at least in public), about ANYTHING...
THAT is the type of leader I want on my team!!!
Maybe he doesn`t give you the "rah rah rah" pep talk that Joey Porter, Or Kirkland does...
But, if these younger players, can`t see that what he does, and how he goes about his business, is the right way to do it,
That is their own Damn fault.... Not anyone else`s, for tryin to "show them the way"!!!
Sorry, this just touched a nerve.
    Spoiled Effin brats!
Never thought I would say that about players on the Chief`s team, but... There it is!!
    And that`s why I haven`t been postin` much.
Momma taught me... If you ain`t got nuthin good to say...
    I`ll shut up now.
    GO STEELERS!!!:herewego!:

Hard to be a leader when you're standing on the sidelines most of the time. We need to stop living in the past and move forward. If a player can't play up to level he once did maybe its time to call it quits. Troy was the best there is at one time. Does anyone here actually believe that he is going to come back and be the old Troy? He can't, his body won't let him. Thank God Hinz retired and didn't do the "go to another team" thing. Remember when Franco left the Steelers instead of retiring? It was embarrassing for him.
PS: Until we can put consistent pressure on the opposing team QB, we're not going anywhere.

A leader should start with the QB by example of play which Ben has shown and the desire to win which he has but he needs to do what we have all seen Brady and Manning doing on the sidelines and that is shouting at their O and D lines. Giving them the pep talks that they all need. But on the down side, I do not think that Ben is that type of guy. We have all seen him on the sidelines either alone or talking to Charlie ( a lot of inspiration their ). Never have I seen him raising hell with someone or a group of guys. And let's not let the coaches off either that is part of coaching. Some people you just can't talk to, they need someone to piss them off and then they will play.
