Little story over on the depot bout the upcoming HOF induction. Troy did an interview with some radio show and said he was kinda forced to retire. His skills I believe we're greatly dimminshing. I don't believe he had much left in the tank. Similarly Rod Woodson look done in I believe 97 ,but went on to play quit a few more productive years . Might have even had a pro bowl year with Baltimore......thoughts

Every player believes they have more in the tank. Few do

Difference is Hot Rod Woodson was Cb that later switched positions so he could stay in the league. I guess Troy could've switched 2 ILB.:smiley1:
Because even though Troy P. maybe My favorite player of all time .....He was about done.
At the End(Sad 2 say) We simply were better with him off the field. IMO.

Yes I agree...Troys skills diminished fast..He went from being a great player to a liability in a hurry...At the time I felt like Rod was in the same boat, but he did prove me wrong. Going on to make multiple pro bowls, and if you look at his stats he actually was getting the job done on the field, not just making pro bowl off past accomplishments.

In the article he says that while the decision wasn’t his, he realised soon after it was the right one.

He was such a competitor I guess the decision had to be made for him.

    He’s still classic Troy though...
    Q. Have you written your induction speech yet?
    Troy: Nah...

I think Troy is going the route of Jack Lambert. Awesome player, Hall of Famer, walk away from the game and have no problems with it.

You might see Troy return once to Heinz Field if they retire his jersey or put him in the ring of honor, but I think he will be like Lambert and not return much if at all for anything.

    Agreed.

Troy looks done with the NFL as it is currently. Besides, he is a huge movie buff and enjoys detailing his recent movie going outings. I would imagine he could communicate with the fans that way.

Beyond that and as you mentioned regarding the retirement of his jersey number?! I do not expect much from him in terms of appearances either. Fine with me either way.

Polamalu's skills didn't diminish as fast as his knee did. His knee issue was what led him to be more than a step slow. His instincts, leadership, and fire were still there, but receivers were blowing by him like a Lamborghini on the Pennsylvania turnpike.

I recall reading that Dick Lebeau offered him a chance with the Titans, Troy ultimately decided to retire. It was not just Troy's last season, but even the season before where it was apparent the speed had greatly declined. Pro Bowl with another team, possibly, because the Pro Bowl is often given out on sentimental reasoning as much as merit. All Pro, highly doubtful.

Agreed, but I think the reasons would be different. Troy has at times been in the media over the years, not much but still present. Lambert just did not seem to be a person that loved the limelight beyond the field all that much.

Troy seems to be one of the most humble people you would ever meet.

Watch 26:50 and to 28:50 and listen to Troy speak it was on America's game story of 2008 Steelers

Guy is just as humble as it comes, and he comes and ruins your day

Amazing player but the way he played scared the shiiite out of me the way he was throwing his body around with no regards. I’m surprised he wasn’t hurt more.

I think you make a great point about Troy. This burns me up a bit too because he is constantly compared to Ed Reed and thought to be the lesser of the two. Troy played his last game as a Steeler and still at a high level. Ed Reed was either released or not re-signed and went on to play with the Texans, but they eventually cut him. Ed Reed did not continue to play at a high level. Yes, they can do all the comparisons, but Troy did not continue to play at a lesser level and hurt his legacy such as Reed did.
