It is just time he hangs it up. Just makes it easier for us to go get a star safety that can actually be on the field and just know that Troy is out of the picture. I love him for all his amazing years but this is just getting ridiculous.

Woodley favoring his hamstring as well and these penalties have been horrendous!

....and who is this magical safety who's not already on someone else's team?

Does it matter? At this point ANYONE who can suit up and play consistently is an upgrade.

I actually made a bet with a friend that Troy wouldnt make Halftime. Guess what, he didn't even make the second Qtr. It's to the point where you can actually see the future with a guy like Troy. All that amazing talent- If only he could stay healthy

Wasn't Troy a high draft pick? I don't follow college ball, is there a safety out there that could start, and be a star, as a rookie?

...........and look how he's done. Especially in Oakland. The original author wanted someone GOOD to replace Troy.

Ya need to read the original post. He wants the Steelers to get a STAR safety. Mundy aint a star.

Love Troy to death. But, if he keeps getting hurt, that large contract is going to work against him.

Mundy??? Are you serious??? Missed tackles, blown coverages? He got beat by a rookie tight end for his first touchdown today and looked bad doing it? He also missed some tackles (including in that last TD drive).
He's a decent backup, but not even close to the answer. I'd like to package him and Troy up to trade for a stud safety who stays healthy (the sum of the two parts). We have no answer at this time...that's why it is frustrating. In fact, none of our DBs are better than average. Ike misses tackles and gets burned regularly...Clark is always good for a personal foul at the wrong time and a couple missed assignments. Everybody can't be good, but we have got to do better than this!

I know he said star and maybe I shouldn't have replied that I agreed with him 100% because of that. But I do agree with the implied general assessment that they've got to take a long hard look at Troy and his future with this team. Obviously you're not going to get rid of him this year, but he's a $10M plus cap hit next year. Do you really want to go into next season with a guy who is having a hard time staying healthy lately? A guy who is increasingly missing time and/or playing injured and at <100%? Especially with a cap hit that big?

As great as he was at some point he's just not worth having around at $10M/yr. And this is magnified with a team that is consistently up against the cap and in dire need of space. At some point his production just doesn't match his cap hit and he has either got to take a huge paycut or go somewhere else. Sure you may never find a player of his caliber but you cant hold onto him forever and hurt your team. At some point you may have to go with a lesser player who costs less but can stay consistently healthy. Its just the way it is.

Troy and the Steelers are not much different than Peyton and the Colts last year.

BBiz...you are right. As much as it hurts...you are right. The real answer lies in finding somebody better them him (and his backup, who will get plenty of playing time). I don't know if we can do that. Right now we are still better with what we have when you compare it to what is available. Next year, it will depend on who becomes a free agent or if there is a "Troy Revisited" in the draft next year.

I've made this controversial statement before and I'm going to make it again now.

Troy's nagging little injury problems stem from HIS UNSUPERVISED OFF-SEASON CONDITIONING PROGRAM!

I know he does things differently but I don't know exactly what he does, so I cannot comment.

    You may have a point.
