I see what you are saying and I would agree if the player played the season.

He no longer wanted to be in pitt is what I got from this. Maybe he felt like the only 10 million guranteed was a slap in the face. Maybe he felt like they would use him up and hang him out to dry. Maybe he was going to come back until he found out the tag still increases and thus holding out and forcing a team to take a Cap hit for a player that wont play basically all but certified him being a free agent or well at least the team wouldnt exclusively tag him as that would cost them 25 million against their cap even if he didnt play. Idk I'm not in his head nor his agent and I'm not going to try to play arm chair psychologist but those are logical assumptions if you ask me. All and all this should be over with and both parties should just move on. But one thing is I dont find him to feel threatened by conner. I've seen guys like Farve was to Rodgers throw shade at their replacements. He has had nothing but respect for him as he probably believes next yr he will cement himself as the best again. Only time will tell.

I know but I'm saying dont even bother with that because like I said that's when it becomes bad. Let's say idk Houston signs him to a 3 year 45 million dollar contract with 35 guranteed. The steelers before all this happened obviously werent going to pay him that amount of gurnateed so why after all this would they suddenly match the offer. It would just look bad and would like like they are trying to do whatever they can to get back at him. Just cut ties completely so his name and steelers can be over. I'm tired of it at this point. Both parties did what THEY THOUGHT was in their best interest so move on.

I think had this not been the rule he would have played. I think when he saw it would move him to 25 million next yr he all but insured his free agency by holding out.

I think Bell absolutely ( well thought ) that Conner would have nowhere near the year he is having, based on last year, how could he? He ( thought ) he had the Steelers by the balls...He can bull**** all he wants...

He thought Conner would suck ( or be average at best ) the team would falter...And he could twitter and emoji away at how he was right, and they would beg for him to return...

Wrong wrong wrong...He spun the wheel, and it came up craps...And he ****ed himself... " He " can spin it anyway he wants!

No I think once he found out the tag price goes up regardless if he plays or not this yr and thus he knew if he just held out and cost them 14 million against their Cap they couldnt use that they wouldnt even think about franchising him exclusively again for 25 million thus he just insured his free agency. Only other wrench now thrown in this is if pitt tries to be petty and puts the transistion on him and match the other team's offer. But I doubt that and I think they just move on completely.

Steelers wouldn't be doing it out of pettiness. I think what you are overlooking is that he may not get the guaranteed money he is expecting. By the time camp rolls around, it will be 18 months since he's played a snap of football. On top of that, is his drug suspension history. I think Bell is in for a rude awakening.

Maybe the Steelers are envisioning a little Kamara/Ingram situation of their own in the backfield.

However, Bell also may retire if he doesn't get what he wants.

Maybe you should get your facts straight Frances. The only butthurt insults were said by you Frances. Mr. Internet courage should maybe google his own facts before mouthing off.

"According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the contract included $33 million in guaranteed money, which was going to be paid out over the first two years" Which is exactly what I said.

SO please feel free to go enjoy your Lev Bell poster over your bed.

I get you being a little raw about the terms of the Steelers' offer being stated wrong by Hack, (I'll take your word for it) but, who the hell offered Bell $45 million guaranteed? Oh, that's right. No one. it's all conjecture. It could be he gets a comparable contract to Pittsburgh's original offer. He might break the bank and end up as the highest paid professional football player of all time. More power to him if he does. By the way, you know in America, you are free to purchase A LV Raiders #26 Bell jersey, right? When Lev signs his "fair" contract offer. Or, he could retire and following his "recording" career.

The Steelers don't owe him anything, and he doesn't owe the Steelers or their fans anything. Hmmmm. Stated as if there is some expectation that Le'veon Bell is owed penance from Steelers fans, or am I missing something? Speaking strictly for myself, I owe him nothing. He was great when he was here, now it's time to move on. The Steelers conducted business. They were not being "slick"; your disparaging term. Please explain to myself and the board why the Steelers should have broke the bank for this guy? Sorry, but I'll trust how Pittsburgh handled him over Le'veon Bell fans disguised as Pittsburgh Steelers fans being "butt-hurt", to use your vernacular, because they refused to award him an Aaron Rodgers like contract. Just be sure when you gloat about all of his statistics, you include the two knee injuries, the two drug suspensions for a total of 7 games, and being a pain in the ass to the team owners and management.

Yes, Conner has been great for the Steelers, but you make it sound like a back handed compliment when you call him a "diamond in the rough". He was having a fine collegiate career until the knee injury and Hodgkins diagnosis. Don't you think maybe the Steelers did their homework and chose a down hill runner that would thrive with the great offensive line they have? A kid with a load of talent that slipped in the draft most likely because of the aforementioned issues? And yes, I hope he stays healthy, too. But they'll just have to cross that bridge if/when they come to it. It seems likely when Pittsburgh picked Conner, they had a pretty good idea, despite what Dan Rooney, Jr. has stated publicly, that Bell was going to have to be replaced at least as early as after this season. Earlier than that by a season as it turned out.

There is something else that pisses me off when you guys try to defend everything about Bell. People like James Conner. He's a great kid who has overcome adversity unrelated to football. Makes him easy to root for. NFL fans everywhere enjoy rooting for players like him, it's not a phenomena indigenous to Pittsburgh. I loved watching Bell play. He is physically gifted like few running backs are or were. But, he's an *******, period. I get it. An ******* that has a right to try and get as much money as he wants. But make no mistake, being an ******* is a trait that generally makes it hard for people to sympathize with him. And I don't. So, if the fact that I don't like him because he's a world class jack hole rubs you and the other Bell acolytes the wrong way, tough. After all, you're on a Steelers fan message board. What do you expect?

They made it to his list of 6, but he gave a reason for them to not be in his final four:

"The Indianapolis Colts will have practically unlimited space next spring despite a gargantuan salary for Andrew Luck, but their new regime has tried to get away from the Ryan Grigson-era dependency on skill players. They seem perfectly happy with Marlon Mack."

If they franchise-tagged him for 2019, the estimates I’ve seen put it at around $22mm. Either way, that was never going to happen. It was the transition tag that he apparently misunderstood. He’d get the greater of (A) the average of the top 10 RB salaries OR (B) 120% of his last contract value. If he showed up, he’d have made ~$6mm this year, so his transition tag value would be low. If he stayed away, (B) would be 120% of the $12mm he made last year = $14.5mm. That’s why he backed off.

By the mouth of two or three witnesses let every word be established...you ever heard that before? That means you cant lean upon one source and say it's the be-all end-all. Things have to connect...things have to make sense.

First of all, lets consider your source, Ian Rapaport...the same Ian Rapaport who relied upon an online source and retweeted a fake tweet that Bell was reporting on a Monday in the middle of October. Notice he did it without even checking the source. We're talking about that Ian Rapaport right??

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.be...count-about-a-return-date-for-leveon-bell-nfl

As a matter of fact Ian Rapaport is infamous for putting out false information:

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/patrio...lains-incorrect-report-about-josh-gordon/amp/

The guy has been called out multiple times by athletes and colleagues both:

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/athlonsports.com/overtime/peyton-manning-calls-ian-rapoport-reporting-broncos-bulls-insulting?amp

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/thebig...oport-was-deadass-wrong-on-chiefs-report/amp/

You starting to feel like a clown now I know. Dont feel too bad. He did sort of get it right. Let's be clear first of all that Ian Rapaport initially put out a report that no doubt came from a Steeler Organization source. Had the report been true we wouldn't even be having this conversation, but it was meant to create a narrative that would put Bell in a bad light. Rapaport just happened to run with it.

Let's also be clear, Ian Rapaport later admitted the 33 million was part of a "rolling guaranteed structure" over the first two years. This means Bell would have to be healthy at the beginning of the season in those first two years in order to get the money.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.be...he-steelers-to-leveon-bell-franchise-tag-news

I was initially confused as to whether this contract would go into effect immediately or would it kick in after the second franchise tag. I'm convinced more now than ever that it would have been after the second franchise tag...meaning at the beginning of the 2019 season. So the only way bell would turn down 14.5 million guaranteed under a tag plus 33 million guaranteed under the 70 million contract is if the 33 million is not actually fully guaranteed and it isnt, because if Bell were to suffer a career threatening injury playing under the second tag he would never see a dime of the 33 million because it was in a rolling guaranteed structure

I know you have a problem with intellectual honesty...but do you honestly think were having this conversation if bell had actually been fully guaranteed 33 mil (not including 14.5 under franchise tag) as opposed to 10 fully guaranteed?? I mean putting emotions aside and looking at this straight down the middle with no bias or black and gold shades on??

Now run along little boy, until you can understand simple math and get better sources.

First of all the Steelers stuck with him through two suspensions because

    1) his versatility in the run, block, and passing game. I'm pretty sure the opinion among most people that know the game is that he is an elite offensive weapon.

    2) 3x Pro Bowl (2014, 2016, 2017)

    3) 2x First team All Pro (2014, 2017)

    4) see points 2 and 3 as proof he had grossly outplayed his contract. Bell had only made a little over 4 million in his first three years and he was paid 12.12 million under the first tag. That means Bell hasn't even made 17 million total yet!!!! Think about this when you consider the fact he was considered top 2 or 3 at his position since he got here by both peers and analysts alike. Let's not even bring up the Fantasy community.

    5) Avg of 350 touches if playing in 12 games or more. Dont come at me with that crap about Bell's injuries. Gurley had one of the worst knee injuries ever in college and had a less than par sophomore NFL season because of a bad hip. TODD GURLEY JUST GOT 60 MILLION 45M GUARANTEED ...despite his past injuries which were just as bad as Bell's! I repeat Bell hasn't even made 17 total!! Adding more injury to insult David Johnson got 3 yrs 39 million, 30 guaranteed!

Nice of you to hold the drug violations over his head, but why offer him 70 million if you're that concerned about it?? Maybe because you can lowball him on the 10 million fully guaranteed??

    6) 2 words....Martavis Bryant. If the Steelers really cared about Bells drug suspensions he'd be in the same boat as MB. Talent always trumps issues. MB was a good talent, but not a great one. Why isnt he here?? Oh yeah, btw....anybody remember what Ben was like under his rookie contract or do I have to remind you all???

Sorry to repeat myself, but Bell doesn't owe the fans anything. The Steelers aren't the Green Bay Packers so you nor anyone else that is a fan signs his paychecks, you don't pay his bills, you're not with him in the gym, you didnt feel the brunt of the hits he took on the field so stop being stupid with the woe is me fan spiel. All the fans do is sit in the bleachers and wave terrible towels.

This was strictly business so for a fan to interject and take the side of the organization I get...but it's a selfish approach because you're looking at everything through black and gold glasses...by the way my two sources are below. Do with it what you will...

But the transition is kinda irrelevant because if they transition him he is free to negotiate with other teams regardless of what the price of the transition is. I think that was his main point because once he signs with that other team pitt can only retain him bu matching their offer. If they transitioned leveon last offseason he'd be playing football for a different team right now.

Even if he gets 25 million. That is much higher than 10..
It's not the fact that they should have broke the bank. It's the fact he had no chance to pursue offers from others. He wasnt put in q situation where he could have gotten more money elsewhere. 10 million gurnateed was absolutely a low ball for him. He could have been cut that next yr or gotten hurt and he sees barely any of that 70 million. He could at the very least gotten 30 million guaranteed last offseason elsewhere. Maybe even 40 with his production and where he stood among the elite of the nfl. His peers rated him as a top 5 player and even with how great Gurley was he was still regarded as the best back in the nfl. Then also considering that they coildnt agree the year before what makes them.think after he was first team all pro and stayed healthy another year that he would accept only 10 million guranteed.

That was proven to not be true and Ian retracted on that. It was only 10 million fully guranteed. Ab only got 19.. you seriously think they would give bell more then AB?

I don't know what your point is here in regards to my post? I'm saying the Steelers may actually be able to match an offer because teams may not give Bell as much guaranteed money as he thinks.

A team that puts up huge guaranteed money for Bell after missing a year and a half of football and drug suspensions are pretty stupid.

    Gurley got 22M guaranteed.

The 45M is rolling guarantees, kind of like how the Steelers offer (if the rumors are true) had more than 10M in rolling guarantees.

He missed one season. Not a year in a half and he is what 27? I give him at least 3 more elite years. I certainly think he could get a 3 year offer with like 35 million guranteed. I already told you based on what went on if the steelers try to match a team just to get compensation I dont think they will trade for him.

After the 3rd day of the season, Bell would have (if the rumors were true) gotten 21M guaranteed. So not as "far significant" as you thought.
"Pittsburgh reportedly were offering Bell a $10 million signing bonus and ALSO a $10 million roster bonus in 2018, according to Florio. When added to the minimum base salary they could have paid him as per league rules, Bell would have been guaranteed $20.79 million in year one alone."

We dont know if that was true regarding what they offered. All reports have had different numbers. The only thing I've seen consistent through them all is the 70 million overall and the 10 million being the only thing fully guranteed. I sincerely doubt that report you mentioned is what they offered because leveon pointed to Gurley's contract PUBLICLY and said something like "but I'm crazy for asking for what I'm asking" idk I cant remember his exact words so I sincerely doubt he turned down a deal along his lines.
