Since we're paying Pittman $20MM a year, I don't think we'll be looking for a WR that comes in to start day 1 (although I wouldn't hate it).

My guess is that we bring Rodgers back in too. And that diminishes the value of a 1st round WR.

I do think we'll take a WR on day 2. I'd guess a 3rd rounder, but maybe that's just playing the chalk since we have 3x of them.

If the return on Queen is a 5th, that's a guy who's probably only going to play on ST if he makes the team. I'd rather have Queen on the roster for that. We aren't hard up for the cap space.

I wonder if we're thinking about LG in the 1st?

Seems to me like we're kind of doing the classic Steelers strategy of filling in the biggest needs (except LG so far) with UFAs so we aren't forced to pick for need early in the draft. Although the cap situation means the guys we've brought in here aren't the normal bargain basement types (I expect we'll try to bring in a LG on a cheap contract too...although maybe we think Anderson or McCormick are that guy already).

That comp pick would be 3 drafts away.

I think the usually thing to do is to discount the pick by 1 round per year in the future (next year's 1st is worth a 2nd this year, etc.).

So a 3rd in the 2028 draft is probably something like a 6th this year because it's so far away.

I guess that must be it.

It seems low....but what do I know?

Also, what is the point of picking a 13th pick in this draft? They almost certainly are not going to have 13 rookies make the roster and PS.

Again....not a defense of Queen....just that the return seems to be useless. And while Queen has holes in his game....he is far more than useless. And, once again, this team is acting like it thinks it is going on a deep playoff run in the upcoming season. Queen would seem to have more value in that scenario than a late(r) round pick that you are most likely to cut.

That doesn’t make sense to me

In essence isn’t that saying a 7th round pick is worth 3/40

I agree with this. Whether you like him or not, he is quite literally the only starting caliber ILB we have. Trading him for essentially nothing would force our hand at ILB in the draft (and we need to draft one anyways). His play has been below what his salary is, but vastly above any other ILB we have. If the plan is to roll Wilson and Holcomb at ILB.... then we're stupid lol

I also think the return sounds low.

Queen is better for this team than a 5th round pick IMO.

If it was a 3rd (or a 2nd), then maybe that's a guy you'd expect to get a good amount of playing time.

A 5th is just a dump for the cap relief IMO...and I don't think we're in a position where we need to give away starters to save cap.

    IDK

I’ve seen a lot of posts saying over it all down snd rebuild

In that case you need 53 picks unless they use 40 UDFA

But they missed the time to do that. Window has largely closed to spin off current roster for future assets. Teams have already spent their wads and sketched out their roster construction path for upcoming season.

Steelers own moves in FA are not those of a team entering a rebuilding cycle. So....they simply aren't going to cut 15 players from the current roster.
