I love this idea. Tomlin goes to a team with a lot of building blocks. The ownerships are close and he can transition into an anylyst role fairly easy having established routes in NYC. Heck he would probably love the new Mayor as well.

We get a top 3 pick in return. Then we trade with TN for the first overall pick and take Mendoza. Then go get a young innovative offensive minded HC from McVay’s staff. All pipe dream but would be great if they could pull it off. I know Tomlin would have to agree to this. I feel like he is holding the organization hostage at this point.

This is not happening. No way, no how.

Why the hell would Giants want Tomlin as HC? They could grab a young hotshot OC who would continue to develop Dart. Giants will be stacked next year if they are healthy with Dart, Nabors and Skattebo. Giants defense is already decent.

I would trade anyone involved with the team (including Tomlin) to get a top 3 pick. That's the best way to get a QB. And the QB is far and away the most important thing on an NFL football team.

But it's almost certainly not going to happen. This is a website trolling for clicks IMO.

While trading Tomlin is not impossible, he would have to agree to it since he has a no trade clause.
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...s-trade-request-mike-tomlin-rebuffed-steelers

Apparently in this case with the Bears, it never got to the team asking him to waive.

    So:
    1. A team would have to want to give up a top 3 pick. Why would a team give up a shot at a long-term answer at QB for a HC? Even one with an impressive track record. I'd be pissed at a GM of a team I liked if they did this for Billy B. And he was the best coach (and GM) in the league for a long time.
    2. Rooney would have to be interested in trading Tomlin. No evidence of this and a very high floor coach like Tomlin seems to be the best HC to execute the mission statement of this team (don't play meaningless regular season games).
    3. Even if Rooney wanted it, Tomlin would also have to agree to it. The linked article makes it seem like he had no intention of doing so. Why leave the HC job with the best job security in the NFL? Tomlin is basically a tenured professor as long as he stays here.

IMO that's three low probability events in the parley. Not a bet I'd take.

I can’t believe someone actually put this in writing. I could probably think of 10,000 reasons why it would never happen.

If the Giants were so great at picking HC’s they would have never hired Daboll in the first place.

    Gotta get those clicks!

Those who hate Tomlin love having these kinds of websites pull the ball away from them every time we have a rough stretch of games.

I agree with what you are saying but by desperate teams do desperate things. Both the Giants and Steelers are desperate. Before this year I am sure we all would have said they never would make the spllash signings they made.

the Steelers have done everything to enable Tomlin to succeed according to Tomlins desires. Signed Russell Wilson that didn’t work out. Signed Fields that didn’t work out. Drafted and reached for Pickett that didn’t work out hired Canada that didn’t work out. Hired and stuck with the current DC and that hadn’t worked out. Hired Arthur Smith and it is not achieving the results we hoped. Drafted olinmen and brought in free agents such as Metcalf, Rodgers, Smith, Ramsey and Slay and it has not worked out.

what more is there to do and see? We haven’t been relevant in over a decade. I believe Tomlin. Ould actually seek to move on after this year if the team gets worse. A more realistic option is the Rooney strip him of some of his authority and they force him to get some new coaches such as oline coach and DC. He has Leeds input on the draft as in Khan has equal say with Rooney being the deciding factor. Tomlin would probably walk if that were to happen and take a break for a year or two and then go back into coaching.

They picked Coughlin in the mid 00's and won 2 Super Bowls, beating Brady twice in the process.... something that eluded the Steelers.

Exactly hence desperate teams do desperate things. Art isn’t the same as his Dad was. I’m sure the same decision makers aren’t with the Giants now as they were in the 2000’s.

Didnt he win coach of the year?

At any rate, if and if is doing a lot of heavy listing here, the Rooneys wanted to do this, Giants are a destination I think Tomlin would be attracted too and they have good building blocks in place already.

I got a slew of reasons this why won't happen. If Tomlin were to be traded, it would be to a franchise that's in win now mode. He has a better chance of accepting a blank check from a PSU booster than getting traded to the Titans or Giants, and the chances of him going to PSU are zero. Realistically, he'd most likely end up in a booth for Amazon collecting 25m a season being this generation's Madden.

    1. The Giants might have a top 3 pick currently. Not saying they would trade it, but I do think that team should believe it has the QB of the future and has some decent pieces around him (Nabers, etc).
    a. I think Tomlin's track record is impressive, but all from the first 4 years of his tenure. The no losing season thing is impressive for sure, but very few coaches get the love Tomlin gets for 3 playoff wins since our SB loss 15 years ago. I think he's the only HC in the league that doesn't get fired in that span.
    b. There is a real chance that the Giants are tired of the "new hot HC". Since Coughlin, they've had McAdoo, Spagnuolo, Judge, Shurmur, and Daboll. Mike Tomlin would be viewed as a "sure thing". There might be interest.

    2. I don't think Rooney has any interest in trading Tomlin. I think the main reason he has stuck with Tomlin is his thought that the fans would be averse to a rebuild.... but as each year passes the fan sentiment regarding Tomlin sours even further. There is going to be a tipping point where the fans will no longer tolerate Tomlin and Rooney could have his hand forced.

    3. This is the main obstacle. Tomlin would never agree to it. He would want to pick where he goes if he leaves, and there's no guarantee he's going to want to continue to coach anyways. Plus, Mike seems like the type of guy that would want to spite the organization if we moved on from him. He'd rather we fired him and got on with it then benefit from moving him.

    4. Rooney might not want to pay him whatever is left on his contract (as NFL HC contracts are nearly always fully guaranteed).
    a. I will say that this is a putrid contract, and we are likely stuck with Tomlin for at least through the end of 2026. The team would be best off firing him and going back to the young coordinator pool to find the HC of the future. The reality is that Rooney likely wont want to pay 2 HC salaries over the next two seasons.

Have You ever noticed that almost every HC that has won Coach of the year is fired within 5 years.
I believe last time I looked into it, out of 15 of the HCs that won the award, 9 were fired within 5 years after winning it. LoL

This is the subject now on 93.7 The Fan. The Rooney's and Mara's are literally family so it isn't as farfetched as it seems. The sticking point is would Tomlin agree to it? I don't think he would.

Vikings have talent and an up and coming Qb. They could use an upgrade over O’Connell, although not sure MT would be the long term answer,

i think the broadcast booth/NFL show is the best destination for him. After 19 years its enough, coaches get jaded even if they are still relatively young

Remember when a poster on here would say trade Tomlin to Washington, and posted a fake pic of the Washington plane in Pittsburgh .
