This is true but then why trade a pick now on a team that is 0-8, why not keep the pick then in the off season sign him to the right price? Getting him now and giving up a pick makes no sense to me, jmo.

Well, Haden's contract pays him around $11 mil/yr for the next few years. I haven't looked at our cap space for the remainder of 2016 lately, but I'm not sure that we can accommodate him financially this season. Wake is getting $7M/yr through 2018, with his full 2016 salary and $3 mil of his 2017 salary guaranteed. That's a lot for a 34 year old edge rusher who is no longer an every down player. Of the 2, I would be more interested in Wake because I think problem #2 on our defense is not being able to get consistent pressure with 4 rushers (injuries are problem #1 in my view).

Damn wasn't even thinking of cap space, we have 6.5 mil open. After looking at Hayden holy crap no, 14.4 mil the next 2 years and 10.9 in his final year(2019)....no thanks!

..... they do realize that Jerald Hawkins is on the roster and has yet to prove himself; Alejandro Villanueva doing a very good job this no less right?

If not... maybe Joe Staley does have an agent writing for nfl.com as far as we know.

    :this!:
I don't get the AV just being o.K.

They brought in the starting LT from the Super Bowl winner and he didn't beat him out!

To be fair, he was only starting at LT due to an injury to Ryan Clady

The trade talk is fun and all, but I don't see anything happening realistically. Have they ever done one this late in the season? Then there's the trust factor with the coaching staff, so it would have to be a seasoned vet which usually means a higher salary.

Would you trade a 2017 2nd to the Jets for DE Sheldon Richardson? He's under contract for 2017 (his fifth-year option at about $8.1M).

Belichick wasnt pleased with his on again off again style of play and said he wasnt worth a 50 million dollar contract to stay with the pats, he got a 3 pick for him and bill is known to trade away pass rushers like he did with the cards for a 2 pick this off season for chandler jones who by the way has been very mediocre since he went to the cards...........

I never got it soon after Beachum went down. Before coming to this forum, I had stated multiple times on SteelersDepot that any amount of games Al played during last season should Beachum had come back would have been to his benefit.

Two playoff games in and Al handled himself well; trading blows with even Von Miller himself a testament to his improvement. We are already seeing the fruits of his labor in year two.

In addition Lizard, remember that the "Sophomore Season" usually is where players obtain the biggest boost towards their football abilities. Yes, Al has been in the league for a while... but this is year two at offensive tackle for him.

Agreed it is fun and it is talk just something cool to do. The NFL has never had the traded deadline this late I heard the owners wanted it so lets see what happens. Also I heard some guys talking about how it isn't like other sports where you can plug and play a traded guy. Systems are hard to learn and some guys can't pick it up in the preseason never mind in the middle of a season.....I have to agree with that.

When was Wentz even all that hyped? He's succeeding where many rookie day 1 starters have failed... he's winning and not hurting his team.

He's being played the way a rookie should be played. Giving him a ceiling at this stage (winning NFL games as a pure rookie), is idiotic.

He's smart, athletic, and talented. And he's executing a simplified playbook as a rookie.

Only a fool would interpret what they've seen out of Wentz thus far and come to an Alex Smith Ceiling conclusion.

Good trade for both...Pats were not going to sign him....most likely getting a 3rd or 4th comp pick in 2018.....so instead they get a 3rd in 2017......Browns get 8 games to kick the tires....first chance to negotiate with him long term....and if he leaves for more money...the Browns will get that 2018 comp.

I know. That's the take I have on him too. Basically his second year as a full time LT.

He has his warts, but at this point DeCastro is playing far worse than Al is.

People roasted me here for thinking that way back in week two. Now that we are at the midway point... there is no question who has been the biggest disappointment on the team; Stephon Tuitt the close second.

@SteelersForLife@SteelersForLife do you disagree cause we don't have a QB or that you would rather have Brady then Ben? I will say this put Brady behind the line Ben has had/have since being here and Brady would be retired now. Ben is one tough SOB and that is why he is the QB he is today, we all saw what happens when Brady gets hit........it don't happen much but when it does he is done. JMO For the record I am not saying Ben is a better QB that is stupid Brady has had one of the best if not the best careers of all time, but Brady on this team or Ben I take Ben....jmo.

Trading in season is different than offseason (jones).

I simply question the value of getting a mid round pick now and removing him from the roster over getting a mid round pick later (compensation), and maintaining roster depth while trying to win a super bowl.
