    Fort is a veteran player UDFA in 2012, bounced around to 5 different teams yet has no amazing stats and by now he shouldnt be battling rookies like Matakevich for a roster spot, I'm not sure he is worth a roster spot based on his resume....

    Keep Wheaton this season then let him leave as a free agent, then the Steelers will get a compensatory pick for him.

    Agree. A team with any sense just waits for him to become an FA next year. A team with a desperate and glaring need for a no.2 WR (such that they would trade) probably wouldn't look at Wheaton.

    Yeah I don't see Wheaton commanding anything that great anyway. This will probably be the year he steps up and gets it done and then he will go on to get a mega deal from a team willing to overpay and we will then be stuck with a fumbling Coates, a pothead Bryant, and and aging DHB(sorry PWP! LOL!) but hopefully Rogers can get it done. I used to have faith that we could make a superstar backer out of anyone but now that faith has transferred to the WR department. I'm assuming Ben has as much to do with that as the FO though.

    heck james harrison bounced around too diamond. i'm not saying he's going to be JH like but the guy can play and so can matakevich. we will still need depth and why get rid of good depth? :cool:

    Those who are still stating that we should trade the likes of Wheaton does not know how the Steelers operate when it comes to micromanagement.

    If Wheaton was a player with serious negative reprocussions.. the Steelers who have not traded him.. they would have released him.. a long time ago. Pittsburgh would rather lose deal with player that they do not see to be beneficial rather than trade for someone else or for a pick if possible considering that if said player is one of the following;

    1.) Distraction

    2.) Overrated

    3.) Scheme Dependent

    Does anyone really think a team is going to trade a player with evenough one of these factors; nevermind multiple amounts of them? Now.. is this saying Markus is any of these things? Outside of 3, no. "But why 3 AQL?" Teams run different schemes. Wheatons talents or height restrictions puts a dent in the number of teams interested. Even in the event that a team is intrigued to the point of immediately picking up the phone and calling Art Rooney's son.. Wheaton is more than likely a slot receiver at best in other teams personnel sets and wide receiving requirements.

    To end this, steelersfan6 stated it best:

    "Keep Wheaton this season then let him leave as a free agent, then the Steelers will get a compensatory pick for him."

    Said reward is where Pittsburgh's true investments lie. Pittsburgh has never been a team to trade much of anything due to perceived "lack of performance", an impending contract year or whatever silly shananigns (however that could change given the fact that comp. picks can now be dealt like playing cards). They only trade when they feel it is when their is a necessity. Even then, however, the preseason is also their contingency plan should things go south as a stopgap option.

    To sum it up;

    Pittsburgh drafting/signing Draftees, UFDA/FA's far exceeds a trade unless those situations are dire and paramount as it was the previous year.
