To answer your question I honestly don't think you're paying attention. I'm sure we can agree that Wallace wants to get paid. With that out of the way there are only two ways he achieves that goal and both of them require signing the tender offer. He either signs the tender, plays, and then goes free agent or signs and negotiates a long term deal with the Steelers. The other way he sits at home and makes NOTHING.

If not traded, i doubt we will see Mike until Week 10 when he needs to report in order to get paid and become and Unrestricted Free Agent.

I just don't see any way that they can get the long term deal at this point, especially after the Antonio Brown signing. I think that was the end of the road and the best deal the Steelers offered was pulled off the table at that point. We can't afford to over pay players and thats what Wallace was wanting or he would have signed the deal. Its as simple as that.

As for the ward hold out, that was a much different situation. He was under contract and was a veteren that had been around for awhile and wanted an extension. Those types of holdouts happen all the time. He was just making a point by not showing up. If Ward didn't show, i believe he wouldn't get paid and could be fined substansually. The Wallace situation under the new CBA allows him to come at week 10 and still get his tender money and become a free agent next year. he will not put himself at risk in camp and early in the season without a deal and now he especially won't come to camp because we have stopped negotiations and the word is he will not get a long term deal since the Brown deal has happened. I just don't see it happening.

We might SEE him week 10, but I don't see Tomlin (or Haley) playing him unless someone is injured. He may not even be activated. It will be REALLY hard for him to showcase his talents for a big FA deal if he waits until week 10 to report.

He only gets a prorated portion of the tender offer if he waits until November. If I remember correctly it's under 1 million. Holding out until November hurts his development within the offense(timing the whole works) and lowers his output whiich reduces the amount of money he makes in free agency. It only makes fiscal sense for Wallace to show up and produce.

Maybe you don't understand the way all of this works. He can sit until week 10 and still get paid and become a free agent next year. Why would he report if negotiations have broken down and it looks very unlikely that he will get a new deal since the Antonio Brown extension?

Many keep saying they see a long term deal getting done but no one is giving a deal and structure that they think Mike will agree to and we can make work under the Cap. Yes, Antonio's deal is backloaded, but with the players and young talent we have on this team we cannot pay 2 WR's an average of 9-11 mill per year. Plus we won't over pay and its obvious that we offered Mike the contract we thought he deserved and he turned it down, so we moved on to Antonio and got a deal done in 2 days. The Steelers want players that want to be there like Antonio and Mike has shown he wants big money and does not value the organization or he would have signed 5 years 50 mill, thats a lot of cheese!

Camp just started and a lot of these negotiations go into preseason. It's not a matter of IF he'll sign, rather WHEN he'll sign and the real deal is what happens after he does so?

It's all emotion right now but we can have both Wallace and Brown.

I disagree. He has no incentive to sit out until Week 10. If he does he will only get paid the prorated 900k of his tender. He is not the kind of player that can afford to miss out on prime earning years. His game will not continue at a high level into his 30s due to father time stealing his speed.

Is there anyone in there? By holding out until week 10 he only gets a prorated portion of the tender. Doing so will also lessen the amount of money he makes in free agency.

There's a headline on NFL.COM right now that says the Steelers will NOT trade Wallace.

If Dallas called and said we will give you our 1st and 2nd round picks, you can bet they would send him packing faster then a Mike Wallace touch down.

This is the question you should be asking Mr. Wallace. Your thoughts make a lot of sense and i agree that is the way it should be, but its not that way in this situation. He turned down 5 years 50 mill, what makes anyone think he will come play for 2.7 mill? On top of it if he comes at week 10 and we sit him and he doesn't play all year, some dumb team will pay him big money.

I read some Fantasy Football message boards and this was one of the posts...

"Just pure talk radio discussion I heard this morning on the Houston airwaves, but with the doubt surrounding Mendenhall's health, and Andre Johnson's age and recent injuries, should the Steelers and Texans think about making this deal: Trade Mike Wallace for Ben Tate, straight up. What would y'all think about that? Just thought it was a fun scenario to think about."

Wallace has no choice, he has no leverage at all. His only leverage is to sit out the entire year, which he won't do becasue no team will throw stupid money after a player who has sat all year. My biggest worry is him being a locker room cancer, because of his contract situation. I'm guessing he signs that 2.7 million tender and plays the year out and moves on, if he sits out then so be it, the Steelers never seem to have much trouble replacing WR's.

That being said if he signs tender, and a team is interested in a trade and you can get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him, I say deal him.

IMO the chances of us trading straight up for a running back are near or at 0%. I don't see us trading him period, though.

I agree. Although if we were going to trade him, trading him for a guy like Tate would not disappoint me.

Maybe discussed elsewhere and if so please forgive but what if he showed up on week 10 and we didn't add him to our roster? Do we have to activate him and allow him be able to count the year for free agency purposes?

Anyone thinking that Wallace will for sure report, because $2.7 M is better than none, you are not thinking on this guys level. These Primma-Donna receivers think they are better than the game, and will not give in, if it will hurt their image. Just look at it.......I find it funny he wants Vincent Jackson money, because Vincent did the same thing here in San Diego. Remember????

"Unhappy that he didn't get a long-term deal, Jackson refused to sign a $3,268,000, one-year tender as a restricted free agent in 2010. He sat out the first seven games, then reported in time to serve a three-game suspension on the roster exempt list.

Jackson was on the active roster for the final six games to accrue a season toward unrestricted free agency. When Jackson hadn't signed the tender by June 15, the Chargers slashed their offer to 110 percent of his 2009 salary, or $583,000. Due to the games he missed, he made less than $300,000 in 2010."

That was half a mil more than MW is tendered, and the diva wouldn't even take that. He sat out, and as it says, only earned $300k after his missed games. That's the way some of them think, and it's interesting MW has aligned himself with Jackson, at least in value, if not in actions also......
