A true shutdown corner is on the trading block. Cards were supposed to be interested in moving David Johnson.

Maybe a 3 way trade is possible?

Yeah, I said this a couple weeks ago. Eagles send maybe a 2nd Rd pick/player to the Cards for DJ. Steelers send Bell and maybe a 4 to the Cards for Peterson?

I’d be down. That would be a huge boost to the defense. If we’re gonna do that however, we better be certain that Peterson wants to stay in Pittsburgh and we have intent to sign him to a deal.

The cards are not trading DJ. They just signed him to a long term deal

On top of that, they suck so why would they be interested in a rental player?

That is why it would have to be a three-team deal, but I don't see it, either. Maybe the Steelers surrender a first-rounder for him, but I doubt Bell would be involved.

I struggle to understand why some people seem to think Bell has any real trade value. If we got a 4th for him I'd be impressed. I know we could get a 3rd compensatory but that isn't certain and won't be for another year. I simply don't understand why any team would give up anything of value for him instead of simply waiting until the off season to sign him. They can't sign him themselves to a long term deal until after the season.

I wish the NFL would change the rules so if both sides agree, a trade and a signing is allowed after x amount of weeks of holding out.

Pretty sure that is only outside the Marine Base down at Camp LeJeune. She might have retired though. :hehehe:

They want draft picks, not trading Bell in this deal.

    Two reasons.

    1) Can help a teams chances of winning a SB this season.

    2) Any team that trades for him now can negotiate a deal after the season before FA begins.

He'll fetch no less than a 3rd because thats what they will get for a comp pick and won't settle for anything less than that. I could see him fetching a 2nd rd easy. He's worth a first but a team does run the risk of not being able to work a deal out with him. Steelers are only one of two teams that don't offer large guarantee money, so I'd think just about any team he goes to will get a deal hammered out.

I assumed that the rule was in place to lessen the incentive to sit out under the tag.

Isn't the comp in the draft year AFTER next? Between the Steelers not being on the hook for THIS years salary and getting a pick in NEXT year's draft, isn't there an argument for the FO settling for less especially given the risk you mentioned. Sigh would have been so much less of a headache if they used the non-exclusive tag (but I think the FO made the right decision)

Yes, the comp won't be until 2020 but I still can't see them settling for less than a 3rd rd pick. I would think a team would be willing to at least part with that.

Comp pick is no guarantee right?
If we sign a high profile FA it becomes a push and no comp pick right?

And Peterson is one of very few in the league who I'd be all for giving up our 1st round for. He's that good IMO and would completely change this defense

Thats true, no back could run behind the worst oline in the NFL that cant run or pass block, theres nothing wrong with johnson other than that oline cant run block, yeah I could just see bell agreeing to go to a 1-5 team with an oline that cant block, keep dreaming people the cards are the last team he would agree to be traded to...........
