Agreed. Wallace seems to be delusional to me. He has one great skill, his speed, which compensates for mediocrity in virtually every other area of his game.

Don't start with me Huge Snack! ;)

Couldn't have said it better. Hines had to sign his deal and come in to get a new deal. What makes Mike think he's above that?

How do you guys know Wallace could be working on a longterm deal that's why he isn't showing up for OTA's they are voluntary anyway. I don't blame him I wouldn't show up either what if he gets injured like Hakeem Nicks of the Giants. Wallace should try and get his longterm deal and not report until it's mandatory.

The offense is being installed. Ben and the rest of the Offense have said that they are starting to call plays and not look around and wonder what everyone is doing. If Wallace doesn't get in and start building that cohesion, he's tempting having a mediocre season and hurting his chances with another team. He'll be another year older, and there's only a couple guys that have held onto their speed very long.

Mike has worked his butt off to earn a big contract and deserve one..When tone was traded, I was wondering if we were gonna be ok and he eased my fears.Im not gonna dump on the guy because he want the money.I would just tell him that the steelers can't afford to pay him money like that. This is a tough one because I want him to be a steeler for life but it look like he will be another plax.

I don't think that the Steelers front office don't want to pay him, they will not give him Fitzgerald's dough !
    Fitz;s stats--- Career 693 9615 73

he had better numbers then fitz in his first 3 years. noted. fitz second contract was 4 years 40 mil. prices go up every year in the league. fact.

do you think he feels he's worth a contract? the steelers front office is in a tough spot money wise in the near future. ben's goes up, mendy, brown, sanders, poncey in a couple, ziggy soon, worilds, redman and i'm sure a few others. do you think we can afford sanders, wallace and brown?

are the steelers really wanting to get something done now? i would think they want wallace to sign this tender and just see for one more year if brown and sanders are going to step into a one two role and then decide where to put the money? if they sign him now, that decision is already made for them and then there's a chance of losing brown instead. i don't think they can afford both wallace and brown. if they can get one more cheap year out of wallace to compare , wouldn't you think they would want to do this? then weigh their options. i'm sure this is on wallaces mind. why should he play cheap, instead of being guaranteed the top spot?

i don't think this is going to be a quick fix contract. the front office has an intrest in holding off and him playing for 2.7 mil. or less for another year. he wants the new contract before brown makes a run at it. what if wallace gets hurt this year? it could influence his next contract and career. i see both sides intrests here.

Ironic that Steelers fans keep posting stories about Raven players and injuries. If Wallace gets injuried in OTA's or camp his value will plummet. The player's have to look out for number one before they can be concerned about the team. Wallace's value may not be in line with the Johnson's, Fitz's, or Megatron's of the NFL but his value is probably just below those players. Fans can call it ego or whatever they want but his value is a lot of dollars. He proved it on the football field. If the Steelers can't reach a deal with Wallace I don't expect Wallace to be a happy man playing for a couple of mill.

I agree. We have the potential of having three very good receivers and we won't be able to keep them all. Let's see who establishes himself as "da man" and pay him accordingly. This also might open the door the our new wide out we drafted. Let's not put all our eggs in the Mike Wallace basket.

Your exactly right but that's football. Every NFL players career's in jeopardy every time they take the field and thats how they make their living to. Even every day people would not make a living if they get sick or hurt and their career would be over. I would much rather make 2.75 mill and have to retire than $20.00 per hour. We don't know if the Steelers offered him a fair contract and Wallace is wanting "Fitz" money.

He stopped by to pick up his playbook, a determined holdout wouldnt do that, everyone knows the Steelers policy about contracts, and that is they will not negotiate a contract with a holdout, skipping OTAs isnt going to make the front office happy with him, and if he holdsout in training camp he will not get a new deal untill he gets back and probably not even then. Plus he wont start for 3 or 4 regular season games if he misses camp, hurting his chances even more for landing a long term contract. Mike should sign his tender, play a pro-bowl season and he will have all the bargaining chips in his corner to sign a deal here and his chances to sign a big contract with another team would go way up....

isn't there a certain number of games a holdout has to maintain or be active for to get credit for that year? he doesn't have to sign that tender and play the whole season. then we don't have that bargaining chip of still having him as a restricted free agent next year, if he is on the team for x amount of games. he could hold out until the last minute, sign it , play uninspired and just go into FA after the season, so we will really get nothing out of him.

he knows he's going to get payed somewhere. he won't hold out all year, so he can become a free agent. we may not get all of mike wallace either.

so much boils down to sanders and brown and the newbie this year. mike will cost a whole lot more next year. so will brown. so might sanders.

I don't know if or when Wallace plans to sign his one year offer. I know that I'd advise Wallace to do the same as Vincent Jackson if a deal cannot be reached. I would not play under a one year deal if I were Wallace. Wallace's value will probably never be any higher then it is at this moment. Wallace proved what he can do on the field. Playing a lame duck year under a one year deal isn't going to increase Wallace's value with the Steelers or another team. Nothing hurts Wallace's chance of a big pay day more then an injury. If the Steelers don't want to pay Wallace another team certainly will.

I don't believe he will hold out all year. I can picture the scenario you stated about happening if a deal cannot be reached. I believe he can come in at week 10 and receive credit for the season.

I don't think another team will give him the pay day he is looking for otherwise a first round pick would have been put up and it wasn't. I really like what Mike Wallace brings but he doesn't exactly have Fitzgerald's hands either, I can remember a few drops that cost the Steelers field position and scores. I will say that the Steelers need to do something in order to keep him as he is dynamic when he is on the field and while Sanders and Brown are really good, how good are they without Wallace forcing a teams safeties to play deep? I think both sides need to think but Wallace has to understand that if nobody offered a 1st round pick for him they certainly aren't going to give him a huge payday either. Perhaps he should talk to Santanio Holmes about what it is like to play for a team with a mediocre QB.....Holmes isn't happy because he knows he is going to either take a pay cut or be out of the league.

Close though, if you're talking about drops. Wallace had 4 drops last year (11th best in the league). Fitz had 3 (8th best).

Edit: My bad, I meant to include the link to the drop rates.
