Saw a rumor that a top SEC corner failed their drug test at the combine. Would be surprised if its Hargreaves but that seems to be the only one from SEC except K Neal (who is a safety anyway). Just some news to watch for.

    Hmmmm....

That's bad news for us. That means Apple and Jackson move up in the pecking order.

Surely he'd be able to cover Bryant (while on suspension together) :roflmao:

Most realistic best-case scenario. Would be like DeCastro all over again.

There's still very little info out there on this item. If it's true, I doubt we take a chance with what we're currently going through.

I'm alone here but I'm not that impressed with Hargreaves..... With the way he's being hyped and mocked I really hope he goes before us.......

This appears to be the origin of the rumor.

I'd love to have him in Black n Gold. Best zone corner in this draft.

Agree, particularly with the "zone" part of the comment. I would not trade the farm to move up and get him, but if he drops to the point where a 3rd would do the trick, I think it should be considered. He needs to clean up his tackling a bit, but no more so than a typical, draftable college corner (and less so than Apple or Jackson IMO). I think there are very few day 1 quality starting CBs in this draft, but he's one of them.

He's hyped as the top CB on most boards----depending on Ramsey being a S or CB--- and projected to go in the top ten. Shouldn't that high of a Quality CB be more than a zone corner??? He isn't that fast , elite speed, and has stiff hips so zone is his true calling. As a zone Corner I'd love to have him in the B&G as that's our scheme but honesty if he falls to us after all his hype then its because of red flags and I'll pass on that.

Absolutely NOT!!!!!!! No way do I give up a 3rd to move for him. He ain't worth a 1st & 3rd rd pick. He isn't Revis!!! W're already down two picks,5&6, so moving up for him is a really bad move. I'd stay at 25 for Apple or Jackson before giving away a 3rd for Hargreaves....................

Pretty good assessment SE. I don't think we will be moving up to get him (I think he goes somewhere between pick 8-13) but I'd love to have him. Apple and Jackson may have a ceiling as high as Hargreaves, but they aren't nearly as good a prospect at this point in time.

Why do you think he's strictly a zone corner? Hargreaves greatest value is the he is equally adept in Man-Press, Off-Man, and Zone. His punch and redirection in man-press is the best in this class, and probably the best since Xavier Rhodes came out, and Rhodes didn't have anywhere near Hargreaves athleticism. In off man his route recognition is superb, and while he gets dinged for "over trusting his reads", it's still a rare skill set to have. And in zone, he's got the short area quicks and drive to close out, while also lacking nothing in the aggression/tackling department. I would say he plays 50% in Off-Man... a perfect fit for the Steelers as they continue to transition to much more man coverage than their traditional cover 3/6 in the Lebeau era

Not liking Vernon Hargreaves is totally bizarre. He's like the dream target for us this year, and a target that we had no realistic shot at up until this supposed drug test. He's the #4 overall player on my draft board.

oh... and he's a return specialist, as if we needed anymore boxes to check off that equate to "perfect fit"

"stiff hips"? are you kidding me?

I would take him over Mackensie Alexander, Hargreaves is battle tested played in the best conference in CFB.

    Got to agree there.

A zone corner is not a move up to get. I don't understand why they don't feel it's easier to take a cover corner that's smart and get him playing the zone? That gives you a much greater flexibility. JMHO

I don't think he's only a zone corner, I think he's fairly scheme diverse. However, he's savvy in zone and knows when to jump routes and force turnovers. He fits what we do very well, but he can do everything you want a corner to do in any scheme.

Exactly. And going up against top QB's, we need corners who can man cover.

This team has shown that the zone reads are easily beaten by big TE's and WR's with a smart QB throwing. The only saving grace is getting pressure.

I, for one, haven't even watched film on the guy because I thought there was no way he was attainable. Even if the rumor is true, I don't think he slides past Tampa Bay.

Exactly...which is why we need cb's that can go man coverage well.
