Wow, I remember he had HIV, but still...so young. I always liked Morrison.

He had actually tried to convince the boxing officials that he was HIV free because he wanted to fight again. Did he get aids in the 80s?

His most memorable fight was in the street against Rocky Balboa.

    HIV positive in the mid-90s.

His best fight was against George Foreman. Not that beating a grandfather is normally a huge feather in your cap, but George could still wail and Tommy actually fought a disciplined fight (he was usually more of a brawler).

I laughed when the fight was over and George was being interviewed. He kept going on about "I could have done this better or that better." Then the reporter asked him if he wanted a rematch. The question was just barely finished and George just blurt out, "NO!"

Yeah after losing the Rumble in the Jungle George was changed and really became a humble dude.

Come to think of it, isn't Toby Keith from that area as well? Anyone get him and Tommy DNA tested. They look a lot alike... ;)

Merle Haggard isn't but he's still proud to be an Okie from Muskogee. Did you have any family that were really effected by the Dust Bowl? That's a really interesting period of history to me and Oklahoma got pounded by it.

Shame. I remember when him and Tyson broke onto the seen, I was thinking these guys are going to be good, I was right about one of them. Not that Tommy was bad, just never rose to Tysons heights.

    RIP

Really liked them both at one time.. Was a big Tyson fan as he was from Catskill, NY and I was from Saratoga Springs, NY about an hour away. Met him in a mall once with my girlfriend at the time. Not much of a fan after the meeting I have to say. Absolutely loved seeing "Buster" Douglas knock the crap out of him.
    RIP Tommy

I knew you thought that and I actually thought about you when I typed that but any kid of the 80s thought Tyson was literally invincible. The reason for this is because all my generation played Mike Tyson's Punch-Out and Mike was almost IMPOSSIBLE to beat. I still say to this day that Buster Douglas used a Game Genie to beat him! LOL. If you don't know what that is just look it up.

Douglas used superior boxing skills and Tysons lackluster training for this fight to beat him.

Tyson never thought he would lose this fight.

Tyson thought he was the better fighter(which he was)...But didnt train for a championship fight....

    Do not underestimate your opponent!!!

Yeah I actually heard Burt Sugar say one time that he knew a journalist that was going to Tokyo for the fight and he said "how long are you gonna be in Tokyo?" and the guy said "about a minute and 34 seconds". I mean NObody thought Tyson would lose but I've heard a lot of interviews from insiders close to Tyson that said the handwriting was on the wall for them. Regardless of whether you like him though you have to admit he could throw a punch that would kill an average man.

What happened? Blow you off? Or worse, say something rude to your girl?

I was pissed actually that Douglas beat him, ruined the Hollyfield fight that would have been next, that would have been a a great fight, both in their prime and when Tyson was still Tyson. He still almost beat Douglas with one punch.

Yeah Tyson knocked him down and really pounced on him but Buster regained his composure and weathered the storm. Also it's worth remembering that Buster was fighting for his mom who had just died.
