Tomlin went out of his way to call out both Blake and Cockrell not by name but by the performance and said Boykin and others will get a chance to step up. I personally don't think Cockrell should be replaced, but Blake needs to see the sidelines and give Boykin a chance and work in Grant. What is there to lose? The pass Defense is 30th in the league and Blake is horrible. Also it's time for Golden to start over Allen but I don't see that happening.

I didn't hear it but if he wasn't calling them out by name how do we know it's Coxkrell and not Allen? Or all of the above? Blake is a given.

He did mention Cockrell and Blake by name after being asked about Blake's tackling issues. Tomlin said he'd give them both a chance to rebound, but they'll look at other options this week- specifically Boykin. Talked about moving Gay to the outside and using Boykin inside. When asked about Boykin's lack of playing time, Tomlin sang Boykin's praises, but said that he's primarily an interior corner, and Gay has played rock solid there.

    Legit.

I'm glad that they are exploring other options to get Boykin (or grant?) on the field more and Blake on the field less.

Not sure how it could be any worse. You could find 4 guys off the street with zero football knowledge do almost as well as our secondary has performed lately.

Coach Tomlin please allow me to respond to this with the level of seriousness it deserves. That is the biggest crock of :bscow:. He preaches accountability and cuts Scobee after missing field goals. Talks about Boykin being primarily an interior corner but one of his bedrock principles since day one on this job is position flexibility, and after seeing such a horrible product it doesn't occur to him to try Gay on the outside and Boykin inside or vice versa because Big Play Willie Gay has been rock solid inside? WHO THE FRAK CARES, of course he has been rock solid because why throw inside when Allen is missing his man, Blake is trying to shoulder block guys out of bounds and Cockrell is pulling on the rope trying to get anyone to help him but that is ok right Coach T because Gay has it locked down.

I wouldn't want them to move Gay but might as well try Boykin on the outside.

Here's a better question, let's say Boykin plays more, which sounds to be a given this weekend, and he does well, as in an INT and some tackles. How would Tomlin ever talk his way out of that? I mean our secondary is horrible, and has been all year, and this guy comes off the bench and lights it up. If that happens Tomlin will look like nothing more than a vengeful a hat. If Boykin is the best on the team (per AB) I'd find a way to play him. That's what coaches are supposed to do. Guess we will see, but lord, if Boykin gets a chance and he shines Tomlin better find some "car salesman" speak to walk backwards from the questions.

He'll find a way, I'm sure. "His performance to date was not up to the standard until recently, blah blah blah..."

    o

That's why I think Tomlin now is praising Boykin, because if he does light it up or even shows that he is better then Blake, he would have some explaining to do and use his best "car salesman" speak.

That's when a reporter with a brain would say "And Blake's has been???" Sadly there just aren't many reporters with brains.

Or, sadly, balls. Asking the tough questions like that can result in one being skipped over at future PC's.

Isn't Allen on IR? Why are people mentioning him? He isn't playing.

Gay and Boykin are the best CBs on the team right now, and they should be starting on the outside. Gay played on the outside last year and the group as a whole was better. The other CBs were Blake and McCain, Taylor for a few games.

We should start Gay as out 1st and Boykin as out 2nd, with Cockrel in the slot. Who cares if Gay and Boyken are better in the slot. They are better than who we have starting on the outside.

Extremely disconcerting. Our secondary cover does not have to be great if you have pass rush but it does have to be decent. It's not and our pass rush at times isn't great. Too many broken & missing parts. It's not easy replacing Ike, Troy, and Ryan deep, Harrison & Wood up front when they were playing on all cylinders.

We're in a constant state of rebuilding the D and they're trying to install speed, which is the way to go I think, but finding all the parts that can stay on the field all together has been elusive. I think Tomlin sees it but he has to work with the parts available in the now. The secondary is all over the place everyone is hurt, hurting, or healing. Not good.

Before the season ever got started everybody but Tomlin knew this secondary would suck.. Now he's just beginning to realize this 11 games into the season ? And to think we're stuck with this useless tool for another 2 seasons..I wonder what the genius has up his sleeve this week! JJ should be a corner
