The funny thing is Ben hated the short passing game Haley was trying to implement and now he completely embraces it. I’m sure a lot of that has to do with physical limitations though.

I'll take "Whataboutism" for $400, Alex.

Do you remember the "candy bar" game in 2012? Brandon Boykin was a rookie CB for the Eagles, the receivers all referred to him as "the candy bar", and were expecting to pad their stats, which of course they didn't. After the game they were asked who came up with that line, and they said it was "one of the coaches".

You play how you practice. They were flat and unprepared in all three phases. It's a pattern that only the biggest of lackeys don't see.

Even when they win, it's by abandoning the plan and balling out with playmakers. The coaches on this team are below the line.

    Agreed.

It’s perfectly possible to hold an HC to account while also acknowledging other issues.

It’s perfectly possible to see the achievements of a coach alongside their consistent weaknesses.

The problems come when people create cartoon-like bad guys and oversimplify things to fit that.

People complain one week the team has no swagger then the next week they’re arrogant.

I’ve always said that there’s more than enough to critique on the field without these simplistic projections.

The defense could've played better, but they were put in a tough spot by the offense, they got some short fields to work with because of the turnovers.

It’s true we went through a lot, but we reached several AFCCGs and a Super Bowl. I find it a bit of a cliche that between Bradshaw and Ben the team flat out sucked.

Who knows, it’s possible that if Cowher had changed the call signals at some point we may well have won a SB with Kordell...

Heyward is the highest paid player on defense, and he played piss poor going against a third string guard, and he had one tackle . Also Watt the DPOY favorite didn't do much, your stars have to play like stars.

True but if you have no Oline you can't make holes for Rbs to actually have a rushing game. As for Ben having too much say in plays. I don't know what Ben does after he gets the play.. He may change it frequently. Seemed like when Ben made plays they progressed further down the field. I dunno.

Overconfidence? Maybe. But there is an air of arrogance that permeates from the top of the organization and infects the players as well.

We never fire coaches, that’s not the Stiller way, that’s what those other inferior teams do.
Redo contracts more than 1 yr in advance? Hell, no that not our way, that’s what inferior teams do.
Got a coaching vacancy? Who’s available that has past ties to the team or is from Western PA? Can’t bother to look outside to those inferior organizations.

Tomlin looks ahead to a rematch with the Pats, loses to Jax. Mike Mitchell’s pregame screaming outside the Jags locker room, that theyll remember his name. Tuitt says pad your stats boys. Juju continues to dance on logos week after week despite losing and looking like a fool as he keeps doing. Sandwiched in the week between two consecutive loses to Cleve, Juju smirks “the Browns is the Browns”, clearly an inferior opponent, who has beat you 3 of the last 4.

Slow starts EVERY GAME after going 11-0. Hey, these guys aren’t supposed to do that! We’re the Pittsburgh Steelers!

There’s a smug superiority that surrounds this team from top to bottom, that’s not justified by accomplishment over the last 10 yrs. six AFC teams have more playoff wins since 2011. But let’s look down our nose at them.

Steeler fans bag on the Dallas Cowboys for this sort of thing, and rightfully so. But look in the mirror, your team looks and acts just like that. And accomplishes about as much.

    Is it Tomlin though?

Could it be certain players take opponents for Granted? Ben perhaps? This didn't happen with Steelers teams before Ben?

OR MAYBE: There are certain aspects of play that show up no matter what game your are in, like a power run philosophy. That rarely disappears week to week. it is in the teams DNA.

I didn’t remember that. Is that the same Eagles CB Tomlin traded for (3rd pick I think) then cut him after one season

That is not relevant to the future. Maybe the Steelers will go decades without another quarterback. Maybe they will draft one this April. The Packers went through some very lean years between Bart Starr and Brett Favre, but they had Rodgers on the roster well before Favre was done.

The irony of all the tomlin hate on this forum, is that it’s obvious that a lot of of the posters are low IQ themselves. I read these comments and just shake me head at how seemingly dense these people are.

how does anyone look at what happened and say “yea that was about overconfidence”? There’s ulterior motives behind the tomlin hate.

thats not true the DB Boykin made a interception in practice and Tomlin yelled “I was right”. Why would he say I was right if he didn’t have any say. All you stupid Tomlin supports say he doesn’t do this not responsible for that. How about you give me the list of what you think this guy gets paid to do (apparently it’s nothing in your eyes). Do you even have a job were you are in charge of other people if something goes wrong even if you weren’t at work that day it’s still ultimately the bosses fault. Why don’t you get a job that isn’t running a cash register and you might get a clue

Tomlin tells Colbert hey I need a CB. Colbert contacts 31 teams finds out who is willing to give up a CB and what the price is. Then Colbert tells Tomlin here is your choices and cost (draft pick on contract). Tomlin watches some tape on a few guys and either says give me this guy or they all suck I don’t want any of them. If you don’t think the head coach is aware of what the GM is working on your crazy

Yup. He was asked about that when he came to the Steelers.
