O line is alot closer then you think, last 2 seasons they have added Pouncey and Gilbert and I'm sure they will address it further in this years draft.

    # 1 defense in the league, not sure what else you are looking for. Led NFL in fewest yards allowed (271.8) points allowed (14.2 per game) and passing yards (171.9 per game). The D is least of our concerns and always our strength. I agree, takeaways were lacking but last year we led the league in that catergory, it was the same team so I chalk it up as a fluke. As for pressure, JH and Woodley were rarely on the field together which is a big reason for that. That and the fact they tweaked the defense to protect agains the pass more which in turn took away some of the pressure they could put on the QB.

Running backs is a position of strength, with Redman, Dwyer, Clay and Batch, again, not sure what you are looking for.

Total speculation about Ben, you don't know that.

I didn't see anyone say we'd win 3 more SB 's in the next 5 years??? The question was can Tomlin match Belichicks 5 SB's.

I would have to say you are the only one who is ON crack after reading your post [/quote:lj8d4nup]

I wish we would all stop spouting off that #1 defense stat, it is crap and you all know it. The number 1 defense doesn't allow a mediocre QB to 92 yards for a winning score and give up not one but two 20+ yard throws to score with one being dropped. We had the number 1 Defense because we had a light schedule for the most part, we played the rams who had a RB run over 100 yards when we knew all they were capable of was running, and the seahawks with Tavaris Jackson, those 2 games alone padded the stats and don't forget how Jacksonville opened up on their first series, Gabbert looked like a probowler. The D-line needs help and there is no replacement for Clark or Troy, because Mundy is a joke. I apologize for getting upset but the numer 1 defense was just a number, this team didn't look like a number one defense at all, I watched as we battled bad QBs and bad teams, face the fact that we had an easy schedule, remember when the Vikings had the number 1 rush defense ? They played teams that didn't run or couldn't run, not because they were good at stopping the run, kind of the same thing. The Steelers run defense was the worst I'd seen it in recent memory, the secondary while better was still shaky at times and the D-line can't stop the run, generate pressure, or take up blocks for the LBers, a good solid D-line will really help, when was the last time you saw the Steelers have to put 10 guys in the box in order to stop the run? Enough said.

    Sanity Check here:

You're asking if the current coach will tie the all-time NFL record for SB appearences. Gee, that's not asking alot, is it?

I'd say no. Not because I don't think Tomlin is a good coach, He's young, but these days coaches move on, and don't stay in the same job for 20yrs. He's got Ben in his prime for 3 or 4yrs. Ben, as good as he is, ONLY gets to the SB less than 1/2 the time. His D is aging. Maybe Tomlin can do it. But don't be pissed if he only gets their 4 times in his Steeler career.

I don't know, can we stop with the light schedule crap then? This is the NFL, there are no easy games. Besides, someone on this site already debunked that claim, we had like the 9th most difficult schedule. Yes, I understand we barely played any heavyweights but what I take that stat to mean is, no one else really play a tough schedule either. And I could be wrong but I also think of all the AFC playoff teams we had the hardest regular season schedule. You don't like the #1 defense thing being thrown around, ok fine, forget that and just look at the numbers I posted, I don't care who we played, that's good D. They played rotten against Denver but that doesn't wipeout an entire season of good defensive play.
