Tomlin told players he's coming back in 2024

OK, so what does that mean Mike? You want an extension, or just go to the end of your contract? I doubt it is the latter, but kind of hard to attract any real coach's the way things are, not that he attracts much anyway.

 

I am sure he will have a extension at some point in the offseason...If this is not the case it will be a disaster to have a HC in a lame duck year

 

this franchise badly needs a culture change.. we've become far too accustomed to mediocrity. other coaches get canned for continuous mediocrity, we promote and celebrate it. sad

honestly without changes it is more the same, but without and extension it would be worse. Art really knows how to stay the ship in a storm lol.

 

This is the worst possible outcome happening. Rooney falling for it, we had injuries, he helped keep the team together and fought to the playoffs. Holy mother of Jesus, another season going down the drain. It will get even worse when they extend him. By him saying that and letting it get out that means Rooney is onboard already. This sucks and makes the winter dreariness even worse.

 

In terms of those in the “know”, the messaging around Tomlin’s return has been pretty consistent. I believe the Rooney’s even came out and said at one point that people shouldn’t read into him heading into his last contract year.

All of the other speculation was coming from sources outside of Pittsburgh, agitators (like Madden), or from the internet (random people writing columns and speculating).

With the likelihood that he returns, I still want to see some big changes in his coaching staff and play calling.

 

This all but guarantees a Tomlin extension IMO.

As far as the coordinators, I'd be shocked if we do anything about that. Extension for Austin and promotion for Faulkner. Were going into 2024 with Tomlin/Austin/Faulkner and throwing KFP out there. Buckle up.

I never bought into Tomlin walking away... in what world does anyone give up on a $12M pay check for doing their job for one more year?

No one *should* ever give that up.

I do too. You wont see it though. I hope I'm wrong, but there is a 99% chance we see the EXACT same staff that coached in the Buffalo game head into the 2024 season. We will likely throw KFP as the named starter heading into camp.

Tomlin hasn't shown he is willing to change yet, why would that start now? The only way we see something different at the coordinator position is if Ownership forces it to change.

TJ and Cam told them they want him. That was probably enough. Fans will have to get on board or buy a new NFL jersey.

 

Looking forward to another 9-8 season and possible 1st round exit.
