First off, I will say I believe Tomlin is a great Head Coach. Some of you will disagree with that, but he has kept us relevant, and a lot has to be said about 15 non-losing seasons. Many of you have been vocal over the years stating he should be fired because you feel he "wasted Ben's HOF years" and we should have had several more SB wins. Then bring in Mitch Trubisky. The QB who has failed in Chicago, but is going to resurrect his career with the Steelers. Your excuse is he had bad coaching in Chicago under Nagy. However, the very coach you say wasted Ben's career and should be fired, is the very same coach who now is going to be the QB Whisperer and turn Trubisky into the star QB based on his draft position expectation. That argument is laughable at best.

Mitch was always intended to be a stop gap. Otherwise they wouldnt have drafted a QB in the first rd.

If Mitch does resurrect his career then they have a nice problem on their hands.

So what's your point here? Here is what I read: Tomlin is/is not a capable coach. Ben was/was not a good QB. Mitch is/is not capable of being a star QB. Fans are/are not laughable.

Popcorn is highly overrated outside of Pittsburgh. The way the sports media gushes over him is hilarious.

Mitch and Mason are both stop gaps. I just find it laughable that some seem to think Mitch is going to lead us deep into the playoffs because he is suddenly a super star.

I'm a big Tomlin fan, but let's be real. There's no reason to believe he either can or cannot hire coaches and have a system that will develop or help a QB. We have no clue.

I do have to laugh though at the ol' "only one SB with a HoF QB" slam on MT. What do you say then about Sean Payton, Mike McCarthy, Andy Reid, Tony Dungy, etc.? Ain't a single active HC, except one, that has more than one SB title. They can't all suck, right?

    RE: Tomlin

Pittsburgh, historically, has not really been a player in the Free Agent Market.
The teams are usually built through the draft and mid-value Free Agents.
More often than not, Pittsburgh players are nabbed by other teams.
So, Tomlin coaching them to .500 or better is a pretty solid track record.

Teams like the Rams, New England, and lately Tampa get to where they have a solid team, then they go spend for that 1 or 2 guys to put them over the top.

    The LB situation:
Chicago has a disgruntled LB, Pittsburgh could easily fit him under the cap and come up with some sort of trade.
He certainly would help (after a good session to make sure his head is in the game)

But I admit, it is a fine line to look at your roster and think, "Wow, a Khalil Mack is all we need, let's get him at any cost"

I can't say Tomlin is the best, but he is solid. I know of a few teams that would love to get him.

My point exactly. I'm glad we have the stability in Pittsburgh that we have. Players want to come and play for Tomlin. He definitely isn't the same coach in year 1 as he was in year 15. He has grown and changed it up over the years as they all do. That is why I say he has kept us relevant and in the mix toward season end. I'll take Tomlin over any other coach out there right now. You are right, does that mean all the other coaches suck? I'll add one to your list, the Patriots went undefeated with Brady and Moss to only lose the Giants. Does that mean Belichick sucked that year? I mean, he did get a little further than the killer B's.

"What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul" - Billy Madison's Principal

Your OP talks in circles. I don't think any person ever (pro or con on MT) has ever given him direct responsibility as a QB developer. The crap show in Chicago was just that...if Mitch has success here its not MT being a QB guru..the stability of the organization as a whole may play a part, being surrounded by talent in a system that fits his skills would be another.

Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown and Ben Roethlisberger. With David DeCastro and Markice Pouncey on the O-line. All Pro, HOF offense.... and couldn't get the job done.

I'm too lazy to look it up but it seems like Tomlin has the most tenure with the same team while having a HOF QB on the roster of all the guys you mentioned. The standard is the standard and that standard is mediocrity.

A line from Band of Brothers, “we’re paratroopers, we are supposed to be surrounded.”

How it relates to this discussion, “they’re the Pittsburgh Steelers, they’re supposed to win Super bowls!”

If you love Tomlin, you must accept he hasn’t done so for a long time. If you hate Tomlin, you have to accept he’s kept them relevant. Those two camps will never agree, unless, going forward they win the Super Bowl real soon. Win with TJ, Minka, Cam, Najee, DJ, PF, Pickens and either #10 or #8.

I want to see Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada groom a QB (Pickett) like Bill Cowher and Ken Whisenhunt did with Roethlisberger. If these 2 accomplish this task... I will suddenly become a Tomlin fan.

Because our secondary sucked..bottom line. We sure could get some sacks, but how many games did we watch slip away as putrid qbs drove their teams down the field. I'm a realist, takes a lot to win a sb..no repeat winners in 20 years and only a handful in its history. Some of those losses though were as painful as watching this team in the 80s. So close but no cigar

When I look at what other posters have listed for our win total I wonder what I'm missing with Mitch. Mitch does have some decent players around him and if our O-line can do a decent job I believe their will be some surprise wins. Can't see Playoffs with him. My fantasy is the guy comes alive in his mid to late 20's. Defense will have to have some big games but good old Mitch will have us following that bouncing ball. (got to be old to get that joke)

Most disappointing era in steelers history

I haven't seen any Steelers fans that think Mitch will lead them deep into the playoffs, I do think he can win 9-10 games and be a Wild Card team.
