You say “give us a chance” however with Boswell that chance is 95%.

The Steelers out scored the Bengals the 2nd half and were one dropped pass by Muth away from giving Boswell a chance to win the game.

I think Tomlin should go but not because he's a bad coach or that it will improve things immediately, but because every one in any job eventually gets stale. Any one who thinks Tomlin is a root cause of this team's shortcomings, however, is delusional.

The problem is that we're trying to win at a game of NFL past. The FO and ownership needs a real change in strategic thinking. I'm not optimistic about Khan and Weidl simply because they are products of this system. Now maybe they have some new ideas and views or at least will hire some voices who can provide alternative viewpoints. Without change at the top, not just in personnel, but in thinking and perspective, the next head coach is going to be of the same cut and stuck in the same box as MT. We can get better at drafting and free agent signings, but if all we do is get better at what we're doing now then we have a ceiling. The franchise needs to rethink what they are doing, not just how they are doing it.

    One person's opinion.

Edit: when I say change at the top, note that MT is not the top.

Tomlin has a big say in playing in NFL Past. It was noted by Todd Haley that Tomlin would tell him how many points he'd need and gameplan accordingly. A real coach tells the OC to put the hammer down every week, aim for 50 points every week, not "I'll just need 17 points this week" conservative, play to not-lose crap.

Tomlin has hired these lackluster passing OCs. Fichtner, Canada, Smith, ALL on Tomlin and going on like 7 or 8 years of offensive ineptitude. How on earth can Khan or Weidl fix poor gameplanning and poor offensive strategy by the COACHES? No, this is MOSTLY on Tomlin. I assume the only reason he's still here is Khan can't fire Tomlin without Rooney's stamp of approval (Rooney too scared to fire Tomlin and face Rooney Rule hypocrisy backlash).

    There, fixed it for you.

Both Zeis and DK are calling for Tomlin's job and Dulak hinted at major changes if they lose. And this morning Shefty hinted at teams potentially inquiring bout Tomlin. Maybe it's something, I'm guessing it's nothing.

If you think MT is the root cause here, I don't think you understand how organizations work. MT is doing exactly what ownership expects. Let me put it another way. There's a reason the Jets and Raiders are continually lousy despite changing coaches like underwear. It's dysfunctional leadership from the top.

I'm not saying we should keep MT or anything, in fact, I think we should move on, but I also don't believe it will make a big positive difference without addressing that this type of football is exactly what ownership wants. In short, chances are they're going to hire a HC that has the same fundamental philosophy.

Judging by media comments outta Pittsburgh last night, Art II has gotten impatient as well. I don't think it leads to Tomlin being a goner.

Art II getting impatient is a start, but won't mean much imo unless he directs the FO to get with the times.

Though a Pittsburgh native, Weidl has only been with the organization since 2022. I like him, and am hoping they don't lose him to any GM openings this offseason (Jets were rumored to be interested).

Not sure if I agree with your theory on the FO's perspective. Art II has been the President of Operations since 2003, and oversaw a discernible shift in offensive strategy in the early-aughts and during Ben's tenure, as well as some tweaks to the defensive system over the years. That's not to say I think the problems are rooted solely in Tomlin - as long as his superiors accept his results, they own them - I just don't think they're necessarily aiming to run an antiquated brand of football long-term. I think the conservative bend we've seen over the past few years was the result of Ben's deteriorating level of play, and that of his replacements.

Agree. I'm starting to think Artie II doesn't want to hoist lord Lombardi's silver football up in the air...he's far too f***ing busy proving his dad hired the right guy instead of winning Championships! There's no other explanation for keeping the most average, overrated, and overhyped coach in NFL history!

Artie II better get his sh!t together...or else change the Steelers Corporate Mission Statement. Some say he already has...

Great points. I hate use the word culture because its gets so overplayed but this thing called culture is bigger than Tomlin.

Love or hate the HC but a Steeler HC could go two to three years of 500 or less seasons and still would maintain his position with possible stipulations like an OC/DC has to "retire"

Look at other coaching carousels and whether right or wrong there on a tight leash.

The Steeler way is so different...love it...hate it...the HC position is the one constant that is an untouchable.

There is no chance in hell Jerry Jones would hire a head coach who has not won a playoff game in eight years, soon to be going on nine years. I wonder where this stupid rumor started.

He's envious of MT's shades and thinks maybe they would alleviate the embarrassing roof glare issue if he handed them out to all the players, refs and attendees.

On the interweb. Are you really holding Jerry Jones up as an example of an owner doing the smart thing?

    This.

For that matter, the 2026 Draft in Pittsburgh cannot come soon enough lol. How poetic it would be to find the "next one" in that class. Plenty of options to choose from as well.

There are a lot of things that go into winning or losing a game. There's really no single moment that you can say definitively tilted the game one way or another. But I will say that the opening drive was as close as any point in the game to being the cause for our loss. The Bengals pretty much ran down the field and scored a touchdown with no resistance at all. It was the only score in which that happened during the day.

I don't think Jerry Jones would be dumb enough to hire that overrated bum. In fact, I'd be surprised if any team hires him.

I agree that I doubt that Jerry Jones will trade for him; I disagree that other teams won't hire him. Shefty already reported that teams are interested in trading for him and today Poles, Chicago GM, stated that a trade for a coach can be on the table. It would probably be a similar to the Broncos/Saints deal for Peyton.

I can't see even the Bears being dumb enough to trade for "Mediocre Mike". If Tomlin was wise he should just retire, staying on could only tarnish his "legacy".

Disagree, he's very fireable. He was rated as the worst NFL HC in 2021, and he's still bottom barrel. I can't see AR2 keeping him after they get blown-out by the Ravens in the wildcard.

When was he rated "Worst HC in 2021" and by whom? I don't recall that. In fact, I recall everyone (not here, of course) commenting how great a job he was doing pulling a winning record out of his.. hat with what he had to work with.

I'm not saying he wasn't, I'm just saying I don't ever recall that being a thing.
