This is the easy way out for fans and players. The fan, if we had better coaching all would be fine. The player, if I had better coaching then all would be fine.

The answer is easy for me bro. Give me the mutha freaking players. This played out in sports over and over and over again.

I don’t understand anybody’s thought process that coaches have zero culpability when it comes to the team’s performance. If that’s the case, then why have coaches?! I don’t think it’s a controversial statement to say that coaches put players in a position to be successful. They teach them the fundamentals, devise gameplans and schemes to exploit the other team’s weaknesses, make adjustments in game to ensure success. What about that is hard to understand? And I agree that once all of that is done, players have to go out and execute. Coaching and playing are not mutually exclusive, they’re mutually beneficial.

Trubisky was broken before he came to the Steelers.

KP showed the ability to execute with ONE READ. ONE READ KP had multiple options on a play. KP missed opportunities because he can't consistently see beyond ONE READ. KP also doesn't display consistent accuracy. KP's future is yet to be determined. After his 3rd or 4th year KP is what he is. Starter, backup, 3rd string, or practice squad player.

Like most things in life the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Why so many people think this is a one part answer is beyond me.

The fans were banging the drum for Canada to be fired because his ineptitude was so obvious and the Steelers agreed by doing something they have rarely ever done.

Trubisky is not good but he was still better when he was with the bears....He make the playoffs twice with the bears and he was like 31-23 in Chicago vs 2-5 with us

About one or two years ago no matter who said anything negative about Tomlin about 4 idiots in here would defend him. Very few try and join in. Now about 98% of the comments are fire Tomlin. Which I have wanted for years. He wasted Ben’s career. We are 7 years and counting without a playoff win which is the longest drought ever in the superbowl era. So to those idiots kiss my butt with ever loss proves I am right you know nothing

Exactly and put forth a gameplan to best exploit their opponents weaknesses and mitigate their strengths.

Tell that to the Lakers, Bulls, Yankees, Red Sox, etc and countless other teams that finally got over the hump when they got the right coach. It has to be a marriage of both in the vast majority of cases!!

Are we talking about year in year out and consistent performance or a one game or handful of game performance? Do we consider all the factors that come into play when dealing with wins vs losses in the NFL? Where do over all wins or losses fall in the the equation?

At the level of the NFL, players generally win or lose games. It's that simple. The Steelers don't have the players.

I don't have coaching experience at any level(I have the ability to study and learn). Give me the BEST players and I will kick the most experienced coaches asses 9 out of 10 times.

Players bro, players. If my boss (he can't do it) needs to teach me about the fundamentals of what I've done since 1996 then I would had been gone a long time ago.

The Steelers are not close to getting over the hump. The Steelers won't be close to the hump until they get a franchise caliber QB that can execute consistently on game day. A lot of teams are in search. A lot of team over paid. Bring in whatever coach that you want. The Steelers will be average without a franchise caliber QB that can execute consistently on game day.

BB is what without Brady? A HC with a losing record as a HC.

So do you think the Pats, Cards and Colts have more talented players than the Steelers? Kurt Warner kept commenting on all of the talent the Steelers have on the offensive side of the ball. The Colts had a backup QB and a running back just signed off the practice squad who ran roughshod over the Steelers D. And I realize we had some attrition on defense, but it seems like other teams’ backups are performing.

It’s about having the right talent. Brady didn’t have an abundance of riches of WRs or RBs, but that Patriots line was always solid. This was a major factor in his decision to sign with the Bucs. Fix the OL. No QB would have succeeded with the type of pressure our QBs are seeing

It's both, the coach devises game plans, sets the tone for acceptable performance and dedication, etc. Agree basic fundamentals shouldn't need to be emphasized but you see MLB teams sometimes take extra ground ball practice for a player who has a series of errors lets say, or extra free throws because technique or mental focus was lacking. The coach establishes norms of acceptable performance. Multiple false start penalties, you sit. Couglhin was known to fix a fumbling issue for a RB by altering his technique. Coaches are there for a reason, they help to get the best out of the athlete both physically and mentally.

Every NFL team has enough talent to win on game day. Ultimately, it boils down to how well or badly players perform on game day. Even Warner knows this.

Jack, what is your solution to the Steelers problem? Start all over?

My solution is to "hope" that KP lights the league on fire in his 3rd season.

The Steelers addressed some areas of need in the offseason. They attempted to have quality depth at every position. No team can replace starters or second string players with 4th or 5th string players. Najee had a bad luck fumble. Blame the coaches for bad luck? Blame the coaches for injuries?

Poor player performances and injuries are to great to overcome regardless of coaching. This is where I stand.

How players perform on game day is the MOST important FACTOR. Ultimately, player performance vs the oppositions is what guides the coaches to make certain decisions on game day. Some fans simply believe that everything is "relative". The other guys get paid millions of dollars too.

Agreed. However some coaching decisions can impact games, Pete Carroll throwing vs handing to the beast or Tomlin punting in lieu of trying the FG, etc.

I think we have some talented players on both sides of the ball so I don’t think there’s a talent shortage. Unfortunately, I do think we need to blow the current coaching philosophy up and start over, preferably with an offensive minded head coach. That’s probably not going to happen so in lieu of that, Rooney needs to insist that a strong OC is brought in to essentially serve as the head coach of the offense. I really think Austin and Smith need to go too. There needs to be significant coaching changes to determine if the talent we currently have is salvageable under a new regime.
