Steeler Depot has a article saying Mike Tomlin is interested in bringing Hue Jackson in to interview for the OC position.I like the idea. What are your thoughts?

I like it a lot. One of the first things Hue Jackson did when he was hired in Oakland was have a sit down with McFadden, who had struggled so far in his career. He asked him what he does well and what he doesn't do well, then he tailored the running game around his strengths AND weaknesses. We all know how that worked out.

I dont think I'd have a problem with Hue...he was a good QB coach and a decent OC/HC and I think he could do well with the pieces here...I like him more than Haley.

I think he's worth taking a look at. He seemed to have Oakland on a course back to respectability but Al Davis' death and subsequent front office shakeup may have caused him to be the odd man out.

Hue was having a lot of success as the OC in Oakland. He may have gotten in over his head as the head coach, but he definitely got in over his head when he started doing GM duties as well. He basically admitted as much and said his head got too big too fast. He won't make the same mistakes twice.

I'm all in on this one! Good balanced attack in Oakland, just crappy players. He'd work wonders here. I'm just glad BA is gone!

Honestly i dont think we could go wrong with him halet clements or fitchner. The skill is there we have playmakers at every skill position amd a few at wr. However they bring is walking into a powerful offense.

Everybody knows I've been pimping Haley on this message board, but I'd be okay with Hue Jackson. Quality coordinator that would re-establish a running game and seems to build a solid offensive gameplan. Would not be intimidated or influenced by Ben.

I could be wrong, but didn't Green Bay promote Clements to OC?

Great, after a meeting with Mendy Hue goes to drawing board to design an offense around spin moves and dancing. But I do like the idea of Hue Jackson being interviewed.

And to now defend Mendy after I kicked him in the nuts, the Steelers dont use him right. They need to use him in the passing game. Few years ago Steelers used him a little bit and he was explosive....... then someone thought the wr screen was much better add to the play book.

Yup. I think Fichtner makes sense and will likely be the hire, but deep down I hope it's Hue. Really turned around the terrible Oakland offense, scored a lot of points while doing it, and had a rough go of it as HC. As an OC he appears to be very legit. I hope the least Tomlin does is give the guy an interview. If he interviewed Caldwell and skips over Jackson I'll be pretty surprised.

I hope the interview goes well.....I think he is the best OC out there IMO......I like his style and his game planning....He believes in the run and the PA so you know he gets my vote...

With Hue I would expect us to be in the Top 8 or so in every offensive Category with the talent we have.....

I agree big time. When Mendy was in college he was a beast in the passing game and I rememeber when we drafted him they said that was a big reason for doing so and I have yet to see us use him in the passing game the way we shouldve been.

Yep stats do lie no doubt.....The stat you need is the PA one followed by the #of times he threw from an empty set and then follow that up by passes to the RB'S and TE'S...

After you get those you will see he had a lot more balance than we do.....As I have always stated I have NP throwing the ball just do so from a Running set and use all the weapons everywhere on the field ....He attacked the D and had more balanced play calling in 1 game than BA has had his whole career...

Most OC's these days do because that's how the game has changed. It's about quality, not quantity. BA had no idea how to effectively run the ball, especially in short yardage situations. He also didn't know how to throw effectively in short yardage situations either.

i'm not sure the game has changed. it's still about blocking, running, passing and tackling , scoring and stopping the other team from doing so. with a smart OC, we should have been able to take full advantadge of BA's offense. if he would have been smart enough to do it. the defenses knew he liked to throw it and game planned for it. it should have been used to our advantadge in the run game. while they were busy trying to defend our down the field style, the run game should have flourished since they were waiting for a passing game from us. we never kept the other team off balance, by doing what they didn't expect us to do. pwp make good sense about this.

tom brady for as much as i hate him is a master of putting the ball into the weakness of the defense. what i mean by this is, there is always a weakness to a defense and it could and does change play by play. when they expect one thing and set up to stop it, you don't just run that play anyway. you look for what they gave up to stop you, then you exploit that. that's what tom tom is so good at on any given drive. ben and BA, not so good at this. when they do this, we need to do that, when they do that, we need to do this. somehow that has never translated to either of them.

this is what needs instilled in ben, though i'm not certain he has the mind to grasp it as fast as he needs to. simplifying it may have been BA's only recourse to get it into bens head. BA over thought it in his mind and it never transferred. he needs a qb like manning to make his offense run. he would do much better with his offense with a more cerebral qb like manning. BA and BA's offense and ben were not a good fit for each other.
