Instead of Tomlin thanking TJ for his body of work he should apologize every game. Recently read TJs comments about DPOY and he said it would be nice but his goal is to win this team a Superbowl. I feel second hand embarrassment for TJ

Yes the team needs a major coaching overhaul. I stated on another thread that I am not sure we can blame Tomlin fully for that though. Rooney has his hands all over coaching appointments by all accounts and is reportedly the one that brought Canada in initially as QB Coach

    https://steelersdepot.com/2020/01/d...-from-rooney-additional-hires-still-possible/

Hard to verify any of this of course, but at the very least ownership is ultimately in control of the team and has to shoulder some of the blame. Everyone could see that Canada wasn’t up to NFL standard last season and there was an opportunity to get rid of him last offseason. I don’t know what internal discussions were had about it, if any, but the fact that he is still in charge of the offence is an indictment on everyone involved.

That said, there were players open on Sunday and Kenny didn’t see them or he missed them. That’s not on Matt Canada, that game was very winnable with better execution.

What's even worse is listening to fans that bash TJ Watt for not producing in the playoffs.

They don't even understand that TJ is routinely double-teamed, triple-teamed, and at times has even had 4 people dedicated to slowing him down. He makes the entire defense better because he allows the other players to only have to defeat one blocker to make a play.

Complaining about TJ Watt is about as dumb a position as anyone can possibly have. To do that requires someone with zero knowledge of how football works. Fans can be so disappointing.

Alot of people have never played organized football and have no
Concept of a team sport especially football.

Having Kyle as a potential OC Candidate would be great.... minus one massive issue.

Kyle just recently got signed to an extension. That extension will run through the 2027 Season. Unless Kyle severely cap sizes this season and potentially even next season, I wouldn't bet on Kyle leaving the Bay Area.

I do agree though that Kyle must be able to overcome such deficiencies in terms of his coaching. While Brock Purdy has not assisted him these past three weeks, neither has Kyle.

agreed, possibly Austin too, but agreed those two first.

when there’s a staff overhaul a HC change is probably not far behind anyway.

Still no contract extension with 2024 looming... I think Tomlin is gone of no playoffs this year.

Every head coach has weaknesses but Shanahan making Jimmy G look very good for so long is quite an achievement

The offense you play in matters. The OC you play for matters.

There were tons of people that were clamoring for Jimmy G to be the Steelers quarterback. Many fans said he was better than Ben.

I wonder if any of the people bad mouthing Pickett now were also people that thought Jimmy G was the answer when they thought he was available?

He looked great in that 49ers offense to many "experts" didn't he? Not so good now.

The offensive system and the coaching matter at the quarterback position.

Those that deny it are kidding themselves.

If every NFL team had a 3 word motto, The Steelers would be:

    "Resistant to Change".

There's a lot to be said for continuity in the NFL, but not when that continuity means failing to act until it's too late, and being averse to new ideas.

The Steelers problems are systemic. The fish rots from the head.
