OK, now Tomlin is the Jeff Dunham of HCs? No play list in his hand, but he just memorizes the off. and def. plays and calls them when his super power spidey sense tells him the cameras are off of him. Aren't you speculating that Tomlin is calling the plays? Kinda hypocritical post.

Incorrect. I am not speculating anything. I do know that HCs overrule and / or request plays. Does that mean Tomlin is calling for 218 z sail x double waggle? Of course not. Should we speculate whether he has or does not have impact on passing from the 1? No we should not, as we have no idea.

Please note my use of "I don't know for sure" and "maybe I'm wrong" which would indicate to most people that I'm simply offering an opinion based on what I observe, hear and read. A message board is a great place to make assumptions, state your opinion, speculate and surmise. The sooner you figure out that that's what many of us do on this message board the more you may enjoy the give and take. Glad to have you aboard and I look forward to some healthy debate. :hi:

    Appreciate the welcoming. Cheers!

I'll always argue against the baseless or uninformed speculation, in favor of debating what we can actually interpret on the field.

We can all watch the same pla and interpret the outcome differently.

It's called giving your coordinator's autonomy, the HC will suggest certain things in certain situations. The fans don't don't know what is being discussed between the coaching staff in their headsets.

I agree 100% with you that Ben is erratic and that Brady is unique in his consistency.

Had to disagree with the post though.

GB Steel, you as a casual fan have a firm grasp of Ben's limitations in spite of his great playmaking abilities... so why doesn't Tomlin?

The best comparison in my mind is Russell Wilson. Wildon is more mobile but he and Ben both do a good job extending plays and making things hapoen down field.

Wilson's limitations are hidden in Seattle- protected by a strong run game and strong defense. Wilson is fairly terrible in catch-up mode when the offense is focused on his passing.

Roethlisberger is a better passer than Wilson but he is more of a similar player to Wilson than he is to Brady.

New England is the team that started going shotgun or empty on 3rd and short. New England is the team that relies on a short passing game more than anyone else theowing 40+ times a game (Brady has a great record in games with 40+ throws).

Tomlin changed the Steelers identity. Steelers were a top 5 rushing team in the years before he arrived. Steelers were the best defense ever in terms of longevity at the top before and during the start of his tenure.

9 years later the Steelers have abandoned the run despite finally being good at it and their passing defense is a joke.

How many times have we heard "Ben is Ben" or "Let Ben be Ben"? Everyone knows he is more playmaker and less efficient Bradylike QB.

The fact is that in an effort to outsmart everyone Tomlin has tried to create an unstoppable juggernaut offense. The problem is that it is not a playoff offense or a consistent offense.

If the offense gets hot for 4 games they could win a Super bowl... but it is more likely Ben won't be able to keep up to the other team's QB who gets to play vs. a porous secondary.

There are far too many variables for the Steelers to win consistently. That is Tomlin's decision and Tomlin's vision for the Steelers. Tomlin fully bought in to the "New NFL" of highlight passing attacks... meanwhile 7 of the top 10 rushing teams head to the playoffs while only the Pats made the playoffs on the passing side.

I see him as a players coach a lot of times.
I really don't know how much he's involved with the offense- but I know he makes some stupid calls when he wants to so he has to have some control there.
As far as the Defense, I remember hearing on the radio that Tomlin is working very closely with Butler & he'd been coaching up the defensive players, something he couldn't do while Dick was here. (In my opinion, that's a big reason that they got rid of Dick.) He probably has a lot to do with the defensive game plan. I don't see him as a guy who just lets the coordinators do their thing. He seems to like to have control.

Abandoned the run  Bell had over 1300 rushing yards last season and was All-Pro. All those great defensive players got old, the defense has been in transition.

Name a better RB in the NFL
than Bell... AD and who else? Steelers should be a top rushing team. They are not.

Steelers were 16th in rushing last year and are 13th this year.

Steelers average 4.6 YPC but 20 teams have run more often than they do.

Cowher's Steelers were top 10 in team rushing 13/15 of his seasons and you're going to use a facepalm emoji when I say the Steelers have abandoned the run???!!!! Wow.

From 92-2006 Steelers were first in rushing 3 times and second 2 times. That ain't balance either but the identity of a smashmouth team is gone. See: empty sets on 1 yard line.

Facepalm emoji? Does your Daddy or Mommy know you are using the computer?

I'm getting dislikes now for saying the Steelers abandoned the run?

Tomlin had one run team in the top 10 for rushing... guess what year?

    That's right! 2007!

    Then Faneca and Smith left!

    Then 23rd!

13/15 top 10 in rushing preceding Tomlin then 1/9 during his tenure.

    I was stating a fact.

Tomlin does not like to run the ball. That is a fact. Don't cry about it.
