Not sure what you are going for here. You were trying to pass off the fact that the Steelers have never given up a 25 point lead like it’s some great accomplishment by them and it’s not. Nothing a team does in the 90s has any effect on what a team does today. I pointed out that it’s the 25 point lead in general as to why you dont see it done often.

I still stand behind what I said that they shouldnt have taken their foot off the gas in the 4th qtr, I dont like prevent D at any time. No goal post moving. I’ve seen too many teams lose because of it.

For the record, 1 team has blown a 4th qtr 25 point lead, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Happened once can happen again and even if there was no team that ever blew a 25 point lead in the 4th, first time for everything.

I dont like prevent D, dont know why that bothers you.

The reason why I make a big deal about it is that every year people criticize a strategy that we have a 100 percent success rate with.

In this thread, Tomlin did well but should have tried to keep his foot on the gas because it might bite us if it was Buffalo? What? Then I demonstrate that not only has this team never suffered a 25 point comeback loss (18 points is the greatest lead anytime in a game that we have ever blown) but that Allen has never done that.

When you generalize my point it only enforces my point that taking ones foot off the gas is not a mistake no matter the team.

And I think you miss my larger point. It is not just about not needing more points. There is a point in the game when lessening the risk of turnover and and benefits of draining the clock are more important than aggressively trying to score.

My point of highlighting the Steelers is that this often criticized tendency results in our being THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE at hoding onto leads. If what we do is bad strategy, why are we successful with leads? Watch for my next post.

I asked Gemini ai for the Steelers record with a 14 point lead entering the 4th. All those games where Steelers Nation loses their minds because "it got close". Point is it ALWAYS works. Those "aggressive" teams are ALL more likely to lose in that scenario.

The Cowher/Tomlin philosophy of taking the air out of the ball with a 2 touchdown or more lead is 175-0 friends. You cannot name me a single strategy that has that kind of record or success.

Let that sink in for a moment.
