Alot of us were kinda wondering where this hiring came from....
Today i popped on NFL network and caught part of a round table on black coaches in the NFL Dungey was on it so was Tomlin and a few others the show originally aired in 2007...The part i caught was who they said inspired them and the first guy Tomlin mentioned was?....Richard Mann Tomlin said how he was an excellent coach for 28 years and wondered why he never had a chance to move up to other coaching opportunists and how he was an inspiration...

Why yes, he has been a great coach throughout his career. Good point.

Please, tell us how you know about how much the Rooneys are involved in each decision that goes on, including this one. Also tell us the details about how you know them. Then stop lying.

If this was Tomlin's hire, and it appears that it was, I'm just happy to see him MAKING A DECISION! When BA "retired", that was a Rooney decision. When Haley was hired, that was a Rooney decision. As the assistant coaches move on to other opportunities, that seems to be their own decisions, in fact, Tomlin wanted Amos Jones to stick around but even Jones knew that he sucked as a special teams coach and was too embarrassed to stick around. Tomlin made a decision! YAY!!!

Yes, God forbid we bring in a coach with experience that can teach our young receivers a thing or two especially when they seemed to have so much trouble with even the most fundamental aspects of their job.

Why not bring in somebody fresh with new ideas, hungry?
Maybe because they want yes men? It amazes me how these coaches
can still hang on and they keep rehiring these rehashed coaches?
Oh well we shall see. 3 Down 3 to go.

Hang on - so the guy isn't 20, therefore he isn't hungry or has any new ideas? Pretty sure Lebeau's been innovating well into his 60's and beyond...

We're a 6-time superbowl champion team. Why should we be hiring unproven coaches?

The WRs regressed with a 30 something as their coach. Let's see what they do with a 60 something as their coach.

He had a wr produce 1270 yards his final year as a wr coach, doesn't sound too bad to me.

The more pressing question is probably: did the receivers on that 3-13 team seem to have a significant problem with dropping passes?

Guys we are talking about a WR coach not an OC. He can show these young guys some old tricks. He's younger then Lebstill gets the job done. Who cares about his age if he can teach these guys o catch and hang on to the football that's all ii really care about.

Scottie was one of the coaches I wanted gone. Now as I have said
3 down and 3 to go hopefully. RB coach,Strength and conditioning coach, and yes DL coach.
I know he is in line for Lebeau's job. But please explain Ziggy and Cameron? 2 first round draft picks.

I agree completely. I know we'll be criticized for calling for these firings, but SOMEBODY has to be held accountable. The problem with a HC not holding his assistant coaches accountable for underperformance and failure is this; eventually if you continue to accept failure, everyone develops a lethargy that creates an atmosphere of mediocrity and contentment. The other coaches see this and they don't coach with the same kind of edge that they once did. The players see this and the hunger is no longer as pronounced as it once was. Everybody is content and resting on their laurels, aka past success. That's one of the major concerns I have about Tomlin. He doesn't seem to want to hold anyone accountable for poor performance. At a minimum, the S&C coordinator should be gone and Kirby Wilson and John Mitchell should be put on notice that they will be held accountable for their respective units' performance this upcoming season. If the players in their units continue to regress and underperform, they will be FIRED at the end of the season! Tomlin better get this figured out or the Rooneys may be delivering this message to him before long.

While I see what you're saying, Jack, I can't help but think a professional NFL coach would also have that one tagged as well.

Not to state the obvious, but we have no idea if coaches are getting screamed at, if they're being given warnings, or if they're sitting down and working out what went wrong and what they could do better. And in many ways, I would rather the last one was happening rather than a gung-ho "FIRE EVERYONE IMMEDIATELY!" attitude that has no guarantee it will turn up anything better.

But how can Tomlin justify wanting to keep Jones? Why is the S&C coordinator still employed? It just seems that Tomlin either has bad judgement or doesn't have the intestinal fortitude necessary to make the tough decisions.

Read my F word post Thigpen. I'm sure you'll have some insightful thoughts.
