It may or may not be the Dolphins , but this will be a year with lots of openings . Haley is at the top of most of those lists . Haley will be gone after this season as he should be . He has to do what's best for him and his Family can't just not advance when you have the chance.

He has advanced in the past and maybe he found it not to his liking. What's best for his family might be to stay put or it might be to take a HC job but that is something we will never know unless he decides to talk about it. Same with Munch, he may have had his fill of being a HC and found out all he wanted to know and is satisfied being a position coach. Going from OC of the Steelers to HC of the dolphins might be a title bump and pay jump but in my mind it is giving up something good for something not so good.

A Football Coach will never see it that way . Any good Football Coach believes they can be the best Coach . To do that you need to be the HC sink or swim . Only way I can see a OC or a DC hanging around is if they expect the HC job they want to open soon .

I don't see Haley waiting on Coach T to get booted .Haley will take a HC job this year you can bank on it .

DL never went back to being a HC. Im sure he was on peoples radar with that 2008 defense.

Haley may take another crack at it but I doubt it will be with the Dolphins, he was fired from one circus, doubt he walks into another one.

DC'S are simply not as valuable as OC'S . Teams want and the NFL wants High power Offenses . Haley has proved he can get his O to put up huge stats . Huge stats bring Fantasy Fans ,Fantasy Fans bring Merchandise ,Merchandise means more money in the Owners pocket . Haley will have his choice of 3 or 4 jobs this season...

I'm not sure the Dolphins owner will want to go with another high profile OC.... didn't work out so well last time. "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"

You can with the right coaching staff. Right now the head coach was an intern last year. He has no business being in that role and the players know it. With the right coach, those players could all be reeled in.

Most teams that have a head coach opening are a circus to one degree or another.

When a coach gets fired DURING the season and especially EARLY in the season it's REALLY bad.

Only one OC was hired to be a HC this past season, Kubiack. Todd Bowels and Dan Quinn both found work and the other HC positions went to former DC's.

As for DL, Im sure he had a few suitors since he had just orchestrated one of the best defenses to ever play in the NFL.

Your argument would have merit if the OC/DC has never been a HC but for coordinators who already tried it, they may find it didnt suit them.

    How old are Haley's kids?
There is always the chance that he might like the stability of living in Pittsburgh, at least until he ships them off to college.

That sounds good and certainly makes sense. However I remember going back to 92 [Cowher era] and listing all the OC's. Until Arians the average term of the OC's was a little over 2 years.

Actually, I would hate to see Haley go. At first, like some others, I was leery of the hire. This was me knowing nothing. It is clear Haley knows the book and is probably the most knowledgeable OC in the game. But I don't think his forte is being a HC.

    Ron Erhardt ----------- 92 - 95
    Chan Gailey------------96 - 97
    Ray Sherman----------------98
    Kevin Gilbride----------99 -00
    Mike Mularkey---------01 - 03
    Ken Whisenhunt------- 04 - 06
    Bruce Arians ----------07 - 2011
    Todd Haley ------------12-

Not the best move for a O coordinator to make. The Dolphins tied up a lot of money with Wallace and Suh and still don't have an O line.

Why would Haley want to go to that train wreck?

Probably not. I really would not like to see Haley leave. Although more than likely Ben and Tomlin have absorbed his methods and a change would be smooth.

Actually, during Cowhers term numerous coordinators/coaches left.[Not all by choice] I recall a reporter asking him if it bothered him that yet another DC/OC/Coach/ was taken. He did say "Well, I'm still here."

Cowher was a lot more experimental and flexible than some people think. I think he liked changes and things got together here offensively also when they got the new ideas brought in by Mularkey. Even Arians once said his offense was based on/or an extension of Mularkey's.
