Todd Haley is the LOGICAL CHOICE!

I think Todd Haley is the logical choice. The Rooney's and Todd's father, Dick Haley, go way back and have a very good relationship. Haley has turned down a couple of gigs already and the possible reason that he has is because he was clued in by Rooney that a change was coming in Pittsburgh. A lot of people don't like Haley because they say he's not a player's coach. Heck, we saw what we got with the "player's coach" BA. Ben ran the offense with little input from BA. If Ben wanted to throw the ball 40 times a game, Ben got what he wanted. If Ben wanted to throw the ball 40 yards downfield forcing it to Wallace instead of checking up to Heath WIDE OPEN at 12 yards, Ben did it. If Ben wanted to go empty backfield set and 4 wide on a 3rd and 1, Ben got to do it. If Ben wanted to play SANDLOT FOOTBALL, Ben got to play sandlot football. Ben may not realize it, but part of the reason that he is STILL not considered an elite QB in the same leage as Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning, etc. is partially because BA gave him WAY TOO MUCH FREE REIGN. And Tomlin allowed it to all go on as he watched (notice the word "watched") helplessly from the sidelines. Tomlin did not even want to be involved in what was going on offensively during a game. I'm through ranting. As far as I'm concerned, Ben needs somebody like Todd Haley to put him in his place and let him know that he runs the offense. If Bill O'Brien can get in the face of perhaps the greatest QB to ever play, Tom Brady, for throwing a STUPID red zone interception then Ben is not above being screamed at for his ineptitude and straying from the game plan at times. BRING ON TODD HALEY!

Although I think you're exaggerating a bit about Ben's control over the offense (we saw decent success when Ben went no huddle), I do find myself warming to the idea of Todd Haley.

I prefer Haley over Caldwell and Fichtner for sure. I'm looking into Hue Jackson a bit more because his balanced attack is very attractive. I just really don't like the way he conducted himself as the Raiders HC though.

I know Tom Clements is the other name being bounced around. I think that hire would have the highest ceiling but I worry how low the floor is.

I was thinking some more, and one thing I like about Haley the passion he brings. We don't have much fire on the sidelines unless DL gets pissed about something.

Agree totally with JackAttack 5958 about Ben needing to be coached, just like Brady and the rest of the elite QB's. Not sure if Haley is the best choice, but regardless of who is chosen, I'd like to see Tomlin more involved in the offense. Under BA, Coach T was as much of a spectator as we were. I can't think of another team where the head coach disappeared on the sidelines like him.

I hope he's not the logical choice because he has ties with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Isn't he the one who has NEVER played football at the college or professional level?

I just want someone that is going to get on Ben when he makes a bone-head decision and willing to stand up to him when it is called for.

Someone that will utilize all our weapons and not have a predicable offense and willing to add a full back.

No, point in fact Todd Haley is the poorest choice. You guys have a hard on for someone to come in and yell at Ben, why do we want a feud between our QB and OC? What good will that do? There are other candidates that can coach Ben without alienating him. Besides, Haley is nothing special, he had one good season in AZ and had Warner, Fitz and Boldin and they lost the SB to who? BA and the Steelers. The idea is to improve here guys, not just bring in someone to yell at Ben. So far on this short list and brief time period Hue Jackson is looking like the best choice.

The fact that he NEVER played college football shouldn't matter. If I'm not mistaken, Bill Parcells never played college or pro football either did he? What about Bellichick, did he play college or pro football? Anyway, if you want somebody to get in Ben's face when he does something stupid in the red zone, Haely's your man. Haley did a pretty good job in Arizona with the Cardinals helping to guide them to the Super Bowl. And before you say he had Kurt Warner, so did the Giants the prior years. Warner's career had pretty much died in New York but was revitalized by the balanced attack that Haley implemented in Arizona. And Haley really didn't do a bad job in KC. He led them to the playoffs last year with Matt Cassell and they were starting to turn it around this year when Cassell got hurt.

Agree 100% with this post. I think Haley is a great choice. While we don't want an OC that will alienate Ben we also don want another one that will coddle him like BA. Hue Jackson would probably be good in this regard as well. Both have a pretty balanced offensive philosophy leaning to the run side.

Haley worries me because he never played and it seems he is so fired up that the players seem to get tired of him. It just seems he has problems getting along with players after a while.

Haley will make this team one of the best passing O in the leage. But do the Rooneys want that?
IMO he'll be the best fit to our team, we have a lot of talent on O.

I agree with everything about Haley here. I don't want someone Ben can walk all over like BA, but it seems like some people are looking for a fight! Haley had one good season with an incredible array of offensive weapons (sound familiar?) but also had an awful running attack (sound familiar?). I'm not sure I see proof that he's really that good, or what we need.

But I'm also not sold on Jackson. Balanced attack, maybe, but how much success has he really had?

Me either but just from the list of names thrown out there so far he seems to top the rest. I found this on him:

In 2010, under Jackson’s guidance, the Raiders offense finished fourth in the AFC and sixth in the NFL in scoring (25.6 points per game) also finished fifth in the AFC and 10th in the NFL in total offense (354.6 yards per game) and second in the NFL and AFC in rushing (155.9 yards per game). The Raiders more than doubled their scoring output from the previous year, totaling 410 points. Under Jackson’s offense, RB Darren McFadden finished the season with 1,157 yards rushing on 223 carries for a 5.2 average YPC and 7 rushing touchdowns. McFadden also had 47 receptions for 507 yards and 3 touchdowns. His total numbers were 1,664 total yards and 10 total touchdowns for the 2010 NFL season. Making McFadden the NFL's 5th leader in total yards from scrimmage for the 2010 season.

Not a large body of work but pretty good stats for a team lacking in super stars, unlike Haley who had high powered weapons at his disposal. Hopefully more names are thrown into the hat, unfortunately they can't take alot of time to make this decision. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fichter get the job.

Well I don't want that so I guess Haley isn't my man. Getting in Ben's face and pissing him off won't make the offense soar no matter what you believe. It's not like Ben is some first year rookie who's going to be shaking in his boots, afraid he might catch the wrath of his new mighty coordinator. The guy is contracted for a over a $100M and still viewed as the future of the franchise. If you think for a minute that they are gonna bring somebody in that right off the bat will butt heads with the $100M man you're kidding yourself. At the end of the day your OC and franchise QB need to have a good relationship for things to work which makes Haley a bad fit. If I had a vote I'd cast it for Hue Jackson. He could provide firm but respectful leadership to Ben and the offense without letting his ego get in the way of things.

I don't want to speak for the other guys, but for myself I'm not saying I like Haley because he's going to come in and butt heads with Ben. I would hope that if they went with Haley that him and Ben would have a great working relationship, but that he'd also be willing to call out Ben when he's making mistakes.

seems to me many are worried about a relationship with Ben. You don't see these worries with Brady, but that is because Brady follows what the coaches want. Seems many here feel Ben is still too immature to listen to coaching. This says alot.

I think Ben "The Sandlot King" Roethlisberger NEEDS somebody like Haley to save him from himself. Ben will NEVER take the next step unless/until he develops some discipine in his game and right now he doesn't have it. As Ben ages he's not going to be able to run around and play backyard football anymore. He'll have to learn how to :
    1) Get rid of the ball quickly
    2) Hit his check downs and hot routes
    3) Throw the ball away if nothing is there.
A new OC that will instill some discipline and get in Ben's face when he needs it is a MUST

    HIRE TODD HALEY IMMEDIATELY!!!

How could you possibly know that? Just several weeks ago on national TV Brady went at it with his OC on the sidelines and the players needed to separate the two of them. I guess he wasn't very happy with what the coach wanted. It's just common sense here. Which boss do you perform better for. The one that treats you with respect and asks for your input or the one who berates you in front of your peers and uses a dictator management approach ? They don't need to break bread together or even send each other Christmas cards but they do need to have respect for one another and that won't happen if you get a guy that's "My way or the highway" so yes I think it's important to have a good realtionship there.
