TJ Holdout?

So when do you start calling this a Holdout?

 

For me. About a month ago. He's currently under contract and should get to work.

 

well he better be playing. he did sign for over10 mil. for this year. i do remember joey porter being let go. get to practice it's not all about him.

 

Wondering if they're really going to tear it all down after Ben leaves, like Cleveland/Miami style.

 

Seriously, just stop. Plenty of people in all walks of life worked just as hard as pro football players. All their lives? These guys are in their 20s. I know that seems like a long time to work hard for you, but it isn't. Those people who work hard for other careers also want to live in mansions and drive expensive cars. The world doesn't owe players anything. It's funny to see you embody their sense of entitlement without their talent.

If they are going paycheck-to-paycheck with that sort of income in a job that does not last, they are being stupid. I'm sorry you are too starstruck by pro athletes to see that. Their union isn't weak because the players can't afford to miss a few checks. It is weak because too many of the players are short-sighted and selfish.

Teams have zero responsibility to help their players earn more money with another team. It is ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

 

This right here. There's something wrong with society when a surgeon who saves lives doesn't make a million dollars a year but a person who plays a game makes 50 times that. That's a long standing argument that's existed for years now but still valid.

 

I doubt Watt is going to give up on the guaranteed portion. Why bother to sign long-term if the team if so much of the money isn't guaranteed? That only benefits the team, not the player. The Steelers are going to start really hurting themselves in negotiations if they don't get a little more flexible on this. It might even show up this week if they have to take the field in Buffalo without their best player.

 

We will see Sunday. If Watt either doesn't play or is very limited, then it hurt the team.

what happens to that 5th year option that he signed? he owes them a year minimum.

 

Unless you are talking about his original rookie contract, he didn’t sign a 5th year option. The team exercised their right to extend the 5th year. If he doesn’t play, he still owes a year. I believe he can skip up to 7 games snd it is still considered a year.

 

I doubt it. I feel like they'll be in denial feeling like they can still compete tbh.

Deliberately not participating with the team and deliberately not playing in the preseason I believe overall affects the team in a negative way.

I agree that it does affect the group dynamic and when you want the team to be one unit but there have been exceptions to that. Ben's day always seemed to be something of a flashpoint for us fans but the team makes it through. Again I would hope that when the deadline comes and goes that the team will know the hows and whys of the holdout and move on to game prep.

 

They're already past the point of no return. We're not keeping both of them, assuming we can even get one.
