If he signs this weekend, he's starting against Buffalo.

He's still under contract, they should have had him running drills during practices and involved a couple of times during a preseason game or two. Now we will get newly signed player with quite possibly the largest contract ever trying to knock off rust in some very meaningful first couple of games.

Won't get his normal snap count, though. Ingram and Highsmith should carry the load.

Watt hasn’t been sitting on the bench with a bag of Cheetos all camp, he’s been working out the whole time, just doesnt do team drills.

The moment he signs, he’ll resume his full roll.

I don’t really see how this is Tomlin‘s fault? Truthfully they should’ve told his ass to practice and play the preseason or get fined

Watt signs :beg: I'll be very happy with 90% of him against the Bills.

Yeah and he’s getting paid $10 million this year before any extension. I don’t care how good or how bad you are. You have a contract STFU and play. At some point most all players enter the last year of their current contract.
I just don’t understand the purpose of a franchise tag or a 5th year option if a player can just hold out.

He hasn't been hitting. Even a veteran needs some practice with contact before taking the field in a real game. He's not going to be 100 percent. Of course, his 80 or 90 percent is pretty damn good, but it is fair to say doing so little in the preseason is going to take away from his quality of play and possibly his playing time in the opener.

    That's what I'm worried about.
He has a motor that only stops when he's not on the field.
I don't know many that have not banged before a game ....that the first couple of games back there isn't a soft tissue injury.

The longer this drags on the more worried I am that the FO and Agent/Player are still far apart. Either way though I think that TJ should have been much more involved in the practices and preseason. Why do these players sign these contract but yet do not fully honor them? Maybe they are still far apart cause the FO expects the player to be more committed during what is actually a contract year. At this stage of the negotiations I wouldn't be surprised if the talks shift from new contract discussion to tag conversations.

I've been hearing from local media outlets that it's simply a matter of TJ putting his signature on the contract for over a week now. Obviously they don't know wth is going on.

Practicing hard without hitting doesn't get a player fully ready to play.

It usually doesn't work, I give you credit for positive thinking though. Week 4 or 5 we should see
results and production, Like I said in an early thread. He and Tuite should donate their salaries to charity.

At this point, you have to wonder if they've reached an impasse and he's going to be tagged. This should have been announced as the last preseason game kicked off.

He will play under the 5th year option, 10.089 mill this season if a contract is not worked out. Then they can tag him in the new year 2022 unless they work out a contract.

It's not a holdout if he is present, doing drills, attending meetings.

His agent is telling the FO, not Watt for him to limit the participation, might even be a clause in the contract that he signed when drafted.

    The FO has obliged.

Hopefully he signs so he can practice come Wednesday, but he still will be ready to play either way.

Thanks, I keep forgetting that, but my point stands. They must be far apart, this should have been done a while ago.

I'm sure his agent has hijacked this to a large degree saying you deserve so much more.

And the agent will get a huge cut of that despite not doing much of anything or having any special physical talent. Nice gig huh?

Tuitt is dealing with a knee injury, you want him to practice with a injury?

Doubt this very much. TJ has an older brother who knows all about being one of the highest paid def players and negotiating big contracts. No way in Hell his agent is “taking him for a ride”. He ain’t no babe in the woods. Outrage abounded here when TJ wasn’t named DPOY last yr. I suspect TJ is fully on board to be paid like a 26 yr old DPOY, translating into the the #1 paycheck.

if the Steelers don’t want to guarantee money past year one, as part of some long standing business practice, that’s up to them. But TJ is not obligated to abide by that. Especially when most other teams are more flexible.
