I was at practice today and TJ was on the field the whole practice but worked out on his own and didn't participate in the team drills.

They better sign him and soon. They can save money next season when Ben is gone

Smart move on T.J.s part. Why risk the injury in practice in addition to risk the hefty amount of leverage you have against the team? It is all in the Rooney's court now.

Let us see how this plays out.

Unless he just asking for a ridiculous amount, this deal should have been done yesterday.

Here’s hoping a deal is announced soon.

    :hmm:

Ridiculous? You mean like $30+? If that is what is being asked, T.J. will get it. Thank Joey Bosa for resetting the market; Myles Garrett the year before no less. I really cannot blame T.J. Watt for asking for such a premium as, while I personally believe this defense is Minkah's, Keith Butler's Defense clearly works off the success and performance of the LB's; T.J. being the tip of the spear.

If the Steelers do not, that would be an interesting start for the 2022 Offseason as I can imagine T.J. will command top dollar from.... just about anyone really.

Ridiculous as in far and above the market.

    Ah.

Well, if it is something like $35+, oh heck to the no on that. I would imagine though the issue could be fully guaranteed money as holdouts like these often are the case. While Josh Allen is not the ideal comparison, having that tremendous cushion of insurance up front is better than without.

I would believe T.J. wants the same assurances although not at the level Allen is currently.

If this is a holdout sort of thing it has to be the best kept secret in Pittsburgh since it's founding. I asked in the training camp thread last week if anyone knew what was going on with TJ and nobody said anything. I haven't seen any of the veteran beat writers scoop it. Crazy

Most of us knew what was going on, it's not like TJ is injured, of course he's doing this until he gets a new contract.

Tomlin was asked last week, and He kind of made it seem like an injury. He said I don't have 2 report injuries right now so I wont...when asked why he wasn't participating in team drills

Non-issue, he doesn't need the reps anyway and he's going to get ran into the ground again this year.

This seems really counter to his statement of being focused on football and not contract negotiations. Curiouser and Curiouser .

The money being thrown around in the NFL, MLB, and the NBA disgusts me. I'm to damn weak to stop watching, but I think about it. As for T.J., in a vacuum, he is worth top of the line money.

Typically anything I see from him is just him repeating what other beat writers are saying so that's when I believe it. Steelersrule6 said everybody knows that he was holding out but I must have missed that memo.

It’s dumb. This guy is under contract. I’m so sick of this nonsense.
“ I’m under contract, but I don’t want to risk injury by practicing because I want an extension” Too frogging bad. Be a man and get your ass in practice and help your team win a championship.

I guess I don't understand what the heck is going on. He had his 5th year option picked up. It is a good chunk of change, the team has said they are working towards a deal. Don't know what this gains?

Yeah, we say that, then when he gets hurt in camp, half the people that say that swear he shouldn't have even been in practice.
