I think $21K is the minimum fine... and it doesn't matter if his first contact is with his hand, he hit Sanchez H2H.

:this!: We can all go on for another 5 pages arguing about this hit. The point is it WAS H2H and in todays NFL that is going to draw a flag and/or a fine no matter how it happens! :frustrated:

Since the NFL claims they donate all these player fines to charity, I wonder if any of these players write off their fines as a charitable donation on their tax return? I dont think the tax law says a donation has to be voluntary to qualify for the tax deduction, any CPAs on this board?

I'm willing to bet that the NFL gets the tax write off.

If you watch the video and stop it and :49, its not the crown of the helmet. LTs side of the helmet and then shoulder hit Sanchez.

Why dont we just invent a bubble, hang 2 flags on it and say 'NO MORE HITS ON QBs' . Period, end of story, no fines, no penalties, no slow motioning of videos. Pull the flag and he is down.

Most of these helmet penalties are called on hitting supposedly defensless receivers, while a lot of them are called on QBs a lot of those are merely hand or hands to the helmet and some of those are even more ridiculous because they barely impact the helmet and are little more than a pat on the head: No matter how much we as fans dont like it, Goodel is hell bound and determined to enforce it.....

And the refs are supposed to determine this at game speed?

Everyone wants to excuse the players action by bringing up how fast things are happening and pointing out how quickly they have to react, but they don't afford the refs the same forgiveness.

    Its not about the fans.

    Its about player safety.

I get what Goodell is trying to do. He's between a rock and a hard place. Unhappy fans on one side and drooling incapacitated explayers on the other.

I'd be more on that side of it if it truly WAS about player safety. There are better helmets out there - they won't make them mandatory. There are better mouthpieces out there that also reduce the risk of brain injury (concussion) - again, no attempt to make them mandatory. Runners can lead with their head, that's fine. Why?

If we're truly concerned with player safety, why is it not ok to the point of being fined to hit a QB at his knees, but it's perfectly fine to hit a DL at his knees when he's already under stress from being engaged with another player?

Perhaps it's in the rules and I'm not aware of it, but why is it that hockey seems to have stricter rules as to when a player can return after a concussion than the NFL?

Throwing a flag over incidental contact? It's bang bang, so I can let that slide I guess. But fining after the fact? With the benefit of slowing it down to see it was purely an accident? :bscow:

If we truly want to keep players from hitting with their heads, take the helmets off. ;)

:amen: "Player safety" is a cover. It's a line for the NFL to use to get what it wants. The rules are being changed to help offenses so that more points can be scored, and that's it.

The only thing that the replacement refs have going for them is that they consistently screw over every team so many times that it's hard to keep track of who got the advantage. But have you heard what the NFL is saying about them? If you listened to that you'd think they were doing a better job than the real ones! Goodell is out to make money and cover his ass so he can keep doing it. He does NOT care about the sport.

They couldnt figure out a way to enforce H2H on running backs so they dont penalize it: They made Horsecollars illegal, the reasoning behind the rule change was a player couldnt protect himself falling backwards, but they said it's OK to horsecollar a QB if he's in the pocket ( GO FIGURE THAT ONE), the fact is when you change the rules in the name of safety make it apply across the board or dont make the rule change...The truth is, they are getting too many lawsuits from former players over post career concussions, so this isnt about safety, it's about limiting their financial liabilities....

Divided equally amongst the 52 players, thats $403.85 . Heck, if money is an issue and they ll make hits like that, I d be down for $5-$10 myself. :good: :towel:
