Timmons Hit on Sanchez

Nice hit by Timmons on Sanchez. He said it did not affect his play lol. How could it not.



We need to talk about each player that has a bad game the week previous because Timmons sucked against Denver and had a great game against the Jets

That's not a good hit at all, it cost us 15 yards. That's never a good thing. I'm sure he'll get fined as well. In the new NFL, sometimes you have to lay off the big hit and wrap the player up instead. It is what it is.

 

It was an incredibly dumb play, it was obvious he wasn't going to get the sack.

 

I still like it even though the NFL is now wussified and stymied good hits.

But what if it cost us the game? Giving a team 15 yards and a 1st down is a dangerous way to play the game.

 

I dont like what if scenarios .. Alot can happen. I dont think he intentionally meant to hit him high and there is no way he could hold up on that hit since maybe a second passed after the release of the ball

 

I have no problem with that hit....IMO it got in Sanchez head...and helped set the tone the rest of the way.

Agreed. Dumb play.
I'd say about 75% of the time when a defensive player knows he has a shot lined up that is "too good to be true" it's because it is. The NFL is cracking down, evidenced by these past few years. Even if the refs dont get you, Roger will... in your wallet.

 

yep something happened to sanchez and it may have been that hit

 

It's similar to Harrison hitting McCoy last year. The QB was out of the pocket and could have ran. I don't remember Harrison being criticized as much by the community after that hit.

 

Ding ding ding we have a winner sanchez was nowherenear the same qb after that hit.

 

Doesn't matter if he could run or not, until he passes the line of scrimmage, he's a QB, not a runner. He cannot be hit in the head under any circumstances. I was one of the people that blasted Harrison as it's a stupid thing to do. All it does is hurt the team. More times than not, the QB is not going to just fall apart, if that's even the reason for the Jets offensive woes.

 

I like the hit as everyone already knows. They played lights out after that and as Hack pointed out it rattled Sanchez enough that his game quickly declined

Sometimes you have to take the fines and yardage if it means you are dominate and it changes the complexion of the game. Which clearly it made an impact on the momentum and tempo of the game . For Timmons it was aggressive and he needed that game and that kind of aggression in his game

exactly i think it was the best thing timmons did to help the team this season , i don't know if was on purpose or not

As someone mentioned I see it similar to Harrisons hit on McCoy...and do not blame Timmons just like i didnt blame Harrison. The ball carrier was running towards them and they got into "tackle mode" or whatever and the ball carrier lowered their body and it was too late for the tackler to adjust and the player ended up getting hit in the head. Simple as that.

 

You can clearly see he turned and placed his hands in front to absorb some of the impact. He had them low as well so as not to get called for the hit to the head.

 

What does his hand position have to do with H2H contact?

LOL! I wonder if he was hearing the criticism. Everyone was ripping into him last week not just here on the boards. Many people were ripping him on sportstalk radio last week....

 

anybody saying that play wasn't clean either didn't watch the play happen fully or doesn't understand the rules. he was flagged because their helmets happened to hit. but if u watch the play from beginning to end you can see clearly that Timmons begins his hit before Sanchez starts to throw. not only that, but the helmet to helmet was only because if you watch the play mark Sanchez begins to slide downward and lower his entire body there by lowering his head to level that Timmons had pre determined he was going to hit. now i know for those out there who don't comprehend what I'm saying this is going to be difficult to understand but you have to try and understand that a 6'2'' 235lbs man running full speed looking for a big hit to change the game is not going to be able to all of a sudden bail out mid hit when he has already committed to hitting someone running full speed. Just because Sanchez suddenly realizes that "hey maybe i shouldn't have rolled out and tried to make this play , oh crap I'm about to get murdered i guess i should have thrown it away" doesn't mean that Timmons should have to just drop and hit the ground to stay away from touching the QB. Timmons hit was perfect and solid and had Sanchez been any other position it would have been praised but because a pansy @$$ qb ducked out, he got the call. penalty, yes because it was technically helmet to helmet. but a fine? no way nothing about that hit was malicious or intentional, and those steeler fans that cant see that, you must have just started watching.

 

Don't lead with your head. This is something that is taught from the time these guys are seven years old. See your target not the ground.

 

Agreed. If you watch that clip in the first post Sanchez starts with his head up at shoulder level of #29 above him on the screen. #29 doesn't move much during the clip...Timmons is coming in at Sanchez's mid section, but as he is already in motion for the tackle, bent over with his head to the left side so his shoulder is first, Sanchez throws and comes down to Timmons.
Timmons did not lead with his head as a battering ram. Even if you lead with your shoulder your head is right there...people ain't turtles.
