Bill Cowher in 15 years was 12-9 in the playoffs.

Mike Tomlin is in his 14th year and is 8-7 in the playoffs. On Nov 22nd of Cowher's 14th year, he was 8-9 in the playoffs. He won 4 games later that season.

How about we let Tomlin continue to write this story and at the conclusion of his 15th season we compare the records.

It's likely that everyone except for Belicheat will add another loss to their playoff record except for 1. In the AFC I really don't see the Bills, Titans, Colts, or Browns getting past Chiefs, Ravens, and Steelers. In the NFC, it's a little more plausible to add a coach to this list from the Cardinals, Rams, Packers or Bucs. (Side note, if that happens, Cardinals would win with Bill O'Brien's receiver, Packers win with McCarthy's players, and Bucs would potentially win with Belicheat's players). Sure enough, of those in playoff contention on this list, they have a great opportunity to create some separation from the others by getting a second SB win. I sure hope it's Tomlin.

I guess you forgot about 2004 when Cowher's defense had no answer for New England in the AFCCG either .

Just a hint since you are a little challenged, but you can’t make fun of me by calling me old. The only reason you know I’m old is because I keep making fun of myself.

Great season SO far! I'll believe it when I see it...Tomlins track record in the last 10 years has been abysmal...I'll take a wait and see approach!

I have 0 issues with TOMLIN besides his coaching. Weak narrative.

What do you think it has to do with it?

Steelers created a rule about hiring minority coaches you don’t think people would be up in arms if they fired him? Obviously you don’t watch much news these days. Which is probably a good thing!

Yes, underachieved with a stacked deck. He coaches one of the great franchises in all of sports. Known for stability. He's never had to worry about being fired. He was gifted a franchise QB. QB makes or breaks a coach. This whole time he's never had to find his guy. Apparently Rudolph was his guy so that's a sign of things to come.

A lot of those 1 time Super Bowl winning coaches built the teams and it was a long time coming for them to finally win one. I'm not going to pull the ole Cowher players blah blah. But he was handed a Championship roster and winning one so quickly does put a damper on it. His 1 SB isn't comparable to a coach like Reid. If Tomlin wins another SB in the foreseeable future then that puts an end to all of that. But if he doesn't then he's going to continue to face criticism.

He doesn't get hate from other fans because he underachieves and that's exactly what haters of the Steelers want. It's like how Steelers fans wanted Marvin Lewis to be the coach of the Bengals forever.

The Steelers didn't create the Rooney Rule. Dan Rooney who believed that everyone is equal felt that young and old minority coaches were not being given enough opportunities to at least be interviewed for coaching vacancies in the NFL and possibly gaining experience in the process. The ultimate goal being that instead of scraping the barrel for head coaching failures there would be a broader talent pool. Dan suggested the rule and because he was right and who he was the rest of the owners and the players union agreed. It has become a sad farce in the last few years and with Mr. Rooney to continue his vision you get crap like the Dallas hiring where they have all but decided that McCarthy was their guy but brought in Marvin Lewis to satisfy the requirement but no intention of hiring.

It was rhetorical comment. If you want a literal comment.

His record sucks in big games.

The rule is not about hiring minority coaches.

    The rule is about interviews.

Considering how many poorly coached teams there are in the league, I would think half of the organizations would welcome an excuse to really explore the talent pool, instead of zeroing in on veteran coaches with limited upside (before the process even starts).
