Actually on the interception Mason said he should have thrown the ball more to the outside away from the defender so that DJ or no one catches that ball.
Mason is improving. I would like to see him start next year and see what happens. I wld like to see one more year of Mason and Kenny competing before we start talking about drafting a QB.

I hope we can keep Mason. He has shown the maturity and growth that we unfortunately haven't seen in Kenny. In reading the thread, I can't believe how many said they've seen enough of Mason to say he isn't it, yet they haven't seen enough of Kenny. Mason has shown more growth in fewer games than Kenny. We can all agree Canada's offense did Kenny no favors. But the excuses are crazy: (The offense was opened up for Mason where it wasn't for Kenny, the O-line started playing better for Mason, Mason beat lower tier defenses.) Was the offensive playbook really opened up for Mason because Canada left, or was it because Mason sat down with the OC and said, here is what I like and what I'm comfortable with. The O-Line did play better with Mason, but could it be due to Mason showing patience, standing in the pocket while it started collapsing around him to step up and make the throws. The running game was better with Mason under center. I believe this is also due to the fact that defenses didn't fear Kenny going deep. Yes, the Bengals and Seahawks were not top-5 defenses, but Baltimore was regardless of resting a few starters. Kenny still had trouble beating some of those lower tier defenses himself not able to muster up more than 16 points a game. Let alone, a few of those wins were due to our defense's early on. I may not have felt Mason was going to light it up like Tom Brady, but I did have confidence he was going to give us a chance and not deliver the standard 3-and out.

Some point to that INT as a reason for the loss due to the ever popular "what if". It was one INT, it doesn't matter if it was in the Endzone or the 50 yard line. It is only magnified by the fact that it was in the Endzone where everyone believed we were about to score can get back in it. Now if he threw multiple INTs then yes it needs to be more scrutinized. I agree with you, I would like to put the ball in Mason's hands going into next season. IMO it is his job to lose now since he has shown more.

That is incorrect. You do not sit Jared Goff to see what you have in Zach Wilson, and that is because that competition has already taken place on the field, the QBs did not drop from Mars and we need to evaluate them. One guy can get sht done and the other is garbage and cannot get it done.

Damn, this actually is a reasonable comparison. I am not sure Mason can quite get to Goff's level, but a resurgence in his career would be similar. It would be more like you don't bench Geno Smith to see what you have in Daniel Jones. Mason has a similar arc to Geno and Pickett is just a slightly worse Danny Jones.

He is Kurt Cousins. A seasoned vet who has improved with time and doubt. But he is not special. And we are in a division with 2 Special QBs. Burrow and Lamar.

He isn't enough. His ceiling is capped. Like him a lot. But I see a Gardner Minchew/ Cousins ceiling. He can be the bridge between Ben and the next great QB. Or Kenny can be. But I don't see a Top 5 ceiling in either.

That said, Mason is currently better.

In head to head, Mason actually outplayed Goff in that game against Detroit in the rain that ended in a tie.

Yeah, that was a long time ago and Goff was the signal caller of a really really bad team. Plus head to head doesn't mean a ton. If someone outplays Mahomes for a game, doesn't make them better than Mahomes.

It depends on Mason and what the Steelers are planning to offer in position and money to retain him. Does he test free agency again or not?

I think there is a chance he may re-sign but in that scenario Trubisky is gone.

Sorry, but I don't think Rudolph is anywhere close to Cousins. Cousins is a really good QB, just not elite. We would have won at least 13 games this year if we had Cousins IMO. I would buy a #2 jersey if Rudolph was as good as Cousins.:lolol:

A Little factoid that I saw just a bit ago that surprised me. Look up the best passer ratings for starting quarterbacks in 2023. Mason Rudolph is number one on the list at a 118 passer rating...... Only three games as a starter, but that is a pretty impressive stat. It beats out Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson, Tua...... And more

Won MVP. Led his team to beat record in the conference.

If Lamar was out QB ( everything else the same) my expectations will be Superbowl or bust.

but my point being, he's accomplished nothing in the post season. So he's Mr. Lamar Tomlin.

I agree. Like you said, he could be a bridge but he isn't the next franchise QB. I have a feeling the Steelers will be drafting a QB in 2025.

I know it's a bad look, but I feel like Justin Fields for a 4th rd pick would be worth it.

I get Brett Farve vibes from him. Like hell be great at his next stop type vibes.

    Oh well... Pipe dreams

It's hard to imagine the Steelers doing that. So out of character. Only way is if they've decided that none of their QBs is the guy, got the right OC for Fields style of play and Rooney, Tomlin and Khan all ate edibles before the strategy session.
