I don’t know what everyone else’s definition of a “rookie mistake” is, but here’s my thoughts based on my definition.

The first one last night was just bad luck that Claypool got tangled and fell.

Second one I would classify as a rookie mistake. I think he was baited into the throw by the safety that Kenny did not attempt to look off.

The third one I don’t know what happened with the throw. I haven’t seen the end zone view or the all 22. But I’d also classify this one as a rookie mistake because I believe he should have tucked it and run.

As someone else said on page 1 of this thread, these three picks all seemed to be a result of aggressively trying to get the ball down the field. I am ok with that. I’m hoping he’s pushing the edges of the envelope to see what he can get away with.

I know this: for me, I’d rather watch Kenny take his lumps pushing the ball downfield for the next 10 games than watch Mitch timidly take every checkdown and outlet pass like we saw the first 3 games.

That ball to Friermuth on 4th and 10 during the last drive was special. Hope we see more of that.

That was a killer. And unnecessary. Could have done a standard sneak or just give to warren like last week

It's crazy to me that people think every QB who is great started like that day one. Allen didn't look like anything until his third year..

Look at how he was moving. I think he absolutely thought about running it, then saw Johnson with some separation from the defensive back. In hindsight, he even said he should have run or thrown it away.

That pass was a great example of why the Steelers need to be throwing over the middle more. He can make those throws and the lack of them has been hurting this offense for years.

I'm inclined to believe what Pickett said about the last throw, that it was a miscommunication between him and Johnson. He thought Johnson was coming back toward him, but he went toward the back of the end zone instead. Johnson's choice makes some sense because coming back to the quarterback meant risking being tackled in the field of play with no time outs and very little time remaining. Pickett should have taken the running room and gone out of bounds. That would have likely put them inside the 20 with about 15 seconds remaining, enough for two or three shots at the end zone.

mahomes was drafted as a talented project. He wasn’t considered pro ready like Pickett and had supreme talent you could build on. That is not Pickett. Also he was behind Alex smith who was a very good qb.

Some of the mistakes are just plain miscommunication like on the last INT. Pickett wanted Johnson to come back for the back shoulder - Johnson instead went deep. That will come with time hopefully.

Everyone who disagrees with you isn't a Pickett lover. Hell, he wasn't my first choice for that pick. I thought they should have taken Hill, though I didn't mind the pick. Honestly, if he fails, that's just another reason to move on from Tomlin. I think it is clear that Tomlin wanted Pickett. One argument in favor of the pick is the Steelers knew him better than every other team in the NFL. If they got that wrong, that reflects poorly on Tomlin.

As I wrote, disagreeing with you doesn't make another poster a Pickett lover. It may just mean that they don't crib their opinion of the guy from J.T. O'Sullivan.

I don't know about Him, but I didn't even want a Qb in the 1st round(you can go look), but I can't fully judge Him by not even a half a season in His rookie year. Real Qbs get better as they go along...from Brady, Brees, Ben ,Allen, Mahomes, and both Mannings for example, ...not worse like Lamar for example.

I was using his logic of me being a Pickett hater must in turn mean he's a Pickett lover.

I think it was a orgazational pick because of like you said the connection and everything.

People here keep also acting like the 3 games are why I'm saying what I said about Pickett. Again there's a reason he was passed over by many teams. I don't think he's garbage or anything just not special.
