Agreed, Ben won us games last year. O-line was awful so he threw quick. Games were close, play calling sucked, he said screw it, called the play and made them when it mattered.

It’s a fair comment. Doesn’t mean we want him back, just that the problems are more serious than realized. With even a bad team, they made the playoffs.

There were many times especially as Ben got older that I would almost be screaming at the TV to just let Ben call the plays because it was so obvious when he did we moved the ball. So like you said 3 quarters of "gameplan" to dig them into a hole that Ben would later stage a comeback and save the day. Ben definitely helped hide a multitude of deficiencies that are all laid bare at the present time.

 

Interestingly, though, in both 2020 and 2021 Ben threw the ball more times in any year barring 2014 and 2018.
Yet in both he threw for the lowest amount of yards since 2012 (excluding the year he was injured, obviously).
This is why I don't buy the 'papering over the cracks' argument. And that's not a sleight on Ben. He was sacked 38 times last year, ffs. The team is rebuilding and the o-line needed severe attention. Plus... Canada.

Bizarrely, Kenny so far still has a better QBR than Ben had in both those years, despite all the INTs.

 

Which only proves how stupid QBR is.....in those two years Ben = 21 wins, and 10 losses...56(total) tds, and 20 ints
K. Pickett = 1 win...3 losses...4(total)tds,and 8ints.....again shows how dumb QBR is ....

 

2020 1-5 finish(including playoff loss). 9-8-1 in 2021 (including playoff loss) and 2-6 in 2022, (at least no playoff loss) = 12-19-1, which is basically two losing seasons. If Najee and Kendrick Green were playing well, I would say the Steelers were in year two of a rebuild. As it is the Steelers are in year one of a rebuild.
