Well, considering they were one of the fewer teams penalized last year, the argument really doesn't hold water. Even this year, up to the last couple games, they weren't getting penalized a lot.

Players play the game, thats where Im going to point to when they eff up.

Tomlin is not without faults, like his going for 2, bit him in the ass tonight like many fans have been waiting for.

I believe he has. But talking can only go so far. He needs to show some action by putting some players or player on the bench for under performing. This sends a much needed message to an undisciplined football team. He should of started with Ben after his performance last week after 3 quarters of ineptitude. Mike Mitchell is another that should sit. Yeah, he benched Rogers but he's basically a rookie and that doesn't send the strong message like a veteran player not starting. Makes everyone start looking a little harder at their performance.

In the 5 games we lost, we were in 4 of them and should have won. The Dolphins, The Ravens, The Cheatriots, and this one...The Cowboys. Our secondary is improved by 10%, meaning not much. And unlike a lot of people I don't blame Tomlin...until today. You can't go for 2 every time. I still believe this team will win the 7th chip this year. But they won't do it like this

Right now in the words of Richard Sherman, the Pittsburgh Steelers are mediocre!

I'm not so sure he shouldn't fire Keith Butler TOMORROW! That would send a strong message to the defense knowing that their ineptitude and stupidity cost their DC his freaking job!

I don't disagree, but the old motto of "you play how you practice" almost always rings true. Just maybe part of our problem if the stuff we're doing during the week

It's not just total penalties - it's the type of penalties (mental), time management.

I didn't look up the numbers of penalties (Pats vs. Steelers) but I'm willing to be that even if the Steelers are less penalized, no one would consider Tomlin a better coach.

I mean just look at the last 2 drives - no Harrison. He's your best pass rusher and you need a pass rush - why is he sitting. Ok, so it's Butler's call - but when he's making a poor call - the HEAD coach has to step in.

I just hope we don't give the Browns their first victory of the season.

Can't blame a lot of the fans that are complaining. Most fans have very little understanding of how an NFL team works.
    Dallas was 7-1
Is anyone really surprised that we lost?
I thought we had a very good chance of winning this game, but wasn't at all surprised that we lost.
You made a great point in another thread that the most negative fans are really the biggest homers in a lot of ways.

Do I think Mike Tomlin is a great football coach? No. Do I think he's a great football mind? Crap no. Do I think it's smart football when you have a defense that's gonna give up points to keep going for a lower percentage play than an extra point? No. Do I think we've drafted well on defense under Mike Tomlin? No. Does Mike Tomlin get on my nerves with his stupid cliches that he spouts ad nauseum? Yes but most coaches talk just as vaguely as he does. HOWEVER, I do not necessarily think this game was exactly on him per se. The 2pt stuff was definitely on him but the missed assignments were more on the players. One call he did make though that I think is really stupid, considering that he's Mike Tomlin and loves to tell us all how he doesn't "live in his fears", was when he made Boz attempt a 55yd fg...AT HEINZ FIELD. Why not just go for a Hail Mary there and you might even literally have a better shot at that than a 55yd fg...AT HEINZ FIELD. I'm just saying that I think that seems a bit hypocritical. Do I think he will be fired? No. Not even close. I would honestly be lying though if I didn't say that his act was wearing a bit thin on me.

With this defense though I really don't know that it would do any good. I mean, let's be honest, this defense was looking pretty dang porous even under the great Dick Lebeau. That's the one thing that sticks with me is the fact that we were looking bad before KB took over. I don't know if it's drafting or coaching but I honestly suspect it's both.

I'm not preaching it. I'm just saying I wouldn't be against it. You're probably right though, it probably won't matter.

Better coach, no, but the argument is he is to blame for all the stupid penalties. He's not.

Any good organization has a leader who takes responsibility for the performance of his subordinates. Sports, Business, Military. Tomlin is the constant.

But if the Steelers were a well disciplined, dare I say, buttoned up football team, Tomlin would be getting the credit for that, and he should. But the Steelers seem to be an undisciplined football team, especially defensively, and seem to lack football intelligence and game situation awareness. I think Tomlin, as the head coach, should be getting much of the blame for that.

Do you guys not watch any team but the Steelers? This stuff goes on with every team.

Like I said, go ahead and fire Tomlin, its not going to stop players from doing stupid things.

It goes on with most teams. Not every team, not the consistently good (or overachieving) ones.

The other teams (where it goes on - agreeing) removes the coaching staff. There are only 4 coaches who have been in their position more than Tomlin and they've all won as many (or more) Super Bowls as him. 3 of them have been NFL coach of the Year and the other beat Tomlin in a Super Bowl.

1 of the 4 is a terrible coach (IMO) in Marvin Lewis, but I think if the Steelers keep Tomlin, his career arc is starting to look a lot like ole Marv's.

McCarthy has some egg on his face lately too AND he ALSO has a franchise qb. I'm really kinda curious to see how that one plays out in Green Bay because I really consider that franchise quite a bit like ours in the sense that they are pretty loyal to their coaches as well. I know not AS loyal but I just feel like their coaches have a longer leash than most.

Yup and the heat has been turned up on McCarthy quite a bit this year. McCarthy has a SB win over Tomlin and a better record than Tomlin and 2 more playoff berths with only 1 more season as HC. He's also won a playoff game in 3 of the last 4 years.

So in theory, McCarthy > Tomlin and McCarthy is getting heat - so why does Tomlin get so much immunity?

Maybe the Steelers and Packers should trade coaches - McCarthy is a Pittsburgh native ;)

Could it be Tomlin is feeling the heat behind closed doors?

Knowing the Steelers, I doubt it. With Pittsburgh's reputation for the lack of heat, the only way he'd feel heat is if it was public.

I don't see Tomlin on this list.

You're mixing arguments. No coach is going to stop players from doing stupid things.

Tomlin gets immunity because thats how Rooneys operate.

Who knows, a missed playoffs this season may get him on the hot seat.
