Not just the Steelers, but teams in general draft guys based in some ways on what they're good at then want them to do something different.
Doesn't always seem to make sense?

The O-line for example? Position flex anyone?

His last year. When he came in the league and wasn't good at reading defenses, they should have gotten him someone in there!

One year in year 7 doesn't help a guy.

If Kordell hadn't been so stubborn and decided that he wanted to dedicate his efforts to being a WR, we'd be talking about him in glowing terms today rather than making him the punchline for Steeler QB jokes.

I agree with this 100%. But as far as quarterbacking, Im right. He was the proverbial square peg into a round hole.

Damn you man...Made me go re-look it up.

one year really because Tommy Maddox took over in 2002 and went to the pro-bowl.

What I'm saying is, you don't let a guy develop habits and a style then try and change them at the end.

I'm all for Ben leaving if it means getting Jameis Winston in 2015.

Winston is worth giving up the house. The recent legal issues might pose a problem, though.

Legal issues? Do you think there's ANY way the FO would go down that road again after Ta'Amu, Rainey, and Ben? I'm really not sure if they would. But I don't know about this kid so maybe he's an exception?

Don't see it, not after the way they conducted their last draft, like they went out of their way to find high character guys and steered clear of any guys with baggage.

It's very premature to draw conclusions. All this just surfaced this week. We'll have to wait and see what comes of it. This stuff aside, if we were in this position next year, I might be in the camp of secretly hoping we suck out so we land him.

The Steelers gave him the opportunity to play QB. Or, rather, Neil O'Donnell did. Had O'Donnell stayed, Stewart would have remained at WR. But with O'Donnell leaving, who was there who gave the Steelers the best opportunity to win? Stewart did. And Stewart blossomed under Chan Gailey. Then, of course, Gailey bolted to the Cowboys (don't think for a minute Jones didn't hire Gailey just to screw the Steelers!) and Stewart wasn't the same.

Indeed. The charges appear bogus. Every report I have heard about Winston is that he is an upstanding kid and wise beyond his years.

I have been watching football for 40 years, and I have never seen a QB this good, at this stage of his development, than Winston. This kid is sick.

TTF, so true with the inability to evaluate offensive line talent. The meat of our problems..

Truly. I'm not sure about the charges as I don't know much about the details, but he is the guy you can build a franchise around.

I don't follow CFB much so I looked the kid up. It seems he is known more for his leadership qualities than throwing the ball. Seems like a great kid with an energizing and contagious personality. Those things are well and good, but how does he throw, because Tim Tebow was a guy who was a great leader with an energizing and contagious personality too.

He has a pro release and runs an offense that's a lot more pro-like than Tebow.

He has the arm. And he's already leaps and bounds better than Tebow ever was.

I agree based on what I've seen so far. I have significant questions about all of the QBs that will be entering this year's draft, but Winston looks to me like he combines Cam Newton's physical abilities with Russell Wilson's accuracy, leadership and savvy. I think he's going to be a good one.
